I have had this bike for almost 30 years now! That's real hard to believe, I'm almost 50 and the bike 40 years old so I thought for a gift to both of us I would do an almost complete restore on her. This web page and images shows what I have done so far. It's been a lot of fun and challenging for me since I haven't had to be in the engine since I rebuilt it in the 80's. I went with the S&S 4 3/4 wheels and 80 barrels and pistons Andrews 6 solid lifter cam and the S & S "E" . The page tells the story so go take a look and let me know what you think. The weather looks like a great day for a test ride so I need to get a few more wires taken care of and some other loose ends and take her for a spin. I have a little story to tell about my first ride yesterday [:'(] today should be much better.

Rodney I take it is 4 3/4 stroke you come up with 93 cu in plus or minus I did one of those 7 years ago I had dual plugs flowed intakes it was a screamer I take it you also had to clear the bo ttom piston skirts( front piston at the rear back piston at the front) I hated selling it but the $'s were there I also had a 1969 FLH sold it for 12000 back in 1997 should have kept that one too
Thanks for asking George yes the pistons and case were both relieved along with some clean up around the breather opening. Everything seems to be working good Just got back from 2nd ride this time to town for some fuel. It sounds great but I must have a lean condition as it pops like lack of fuel I was going to bump both the intermediate and main jets up one and see what that does. I can handle 93 CU IN
I think I will get a new oil pump coming tomorrow along with some jets. What carb did you run on your 4 3/4 stroke engine? yes mine is also what the guy at S&S called the 88 wheels 4 3/4 stroke. The guy I bought them from didn't like them for some reason but is real interested in how this is going to run.. ME TOO! so far so good but it was Cold for a very long ride in the low 50's but felt freezing.

You may like to look @ this stocker. The board was under the tins. Where do you buy fabric wire like the stuff on this bike. Another butchered it. My friend had the drum up front. I switched it over to a 04 FL with 07 calipers, wheel, etc. Kept the tins for the original look. In Fort Lauderdale, we have lovely people who will cut in front of you @ 70mph 1/2 of a car length & make a turn. Not good with drum. Went out today with him & he loves the bike with 2X brakes, no more burning shoes. We hated to do it though. Before during & after
That's what I like to see, a bike that has become part of a person's life, like an old freind or favorite relative. We know they are just machines, but a connection is formed over years of ridin and wrenchin that cannot be explained nor replaced by a new machine. The new machine becomes a new old freind with it's own set of shared experiences. I've had my shovel for 5 years and it was my best freind's for 20 years before that. We'll keep it in the family b/c it is one of us...if you know what I mean.

FastHarley, that is a GREAT looking FLH. I don't blame your friend for going with discs - if he's riding it all the time it only makes sense. Those bagger brakes really work, and they still look good on that bike. It's a beaut, nice work.

We hated to do it but if you are riding them here, you have to. I do not like to bastardize a bike like this but survival is everything as he puts miles on it. Everything is like brand new including the drum brakes. They are still not adequate for Fort Lauderdale. Again, desperation.
This is after I got to rewire the bike up front some. Again, Rodney Where do you get the fabric wiring?

part number 32-8099 for the loom 1/4 id you should request a catalog from them!
I see they offer a download verson of the catalog I would suggest not doing this it is a real pain to navagate request a hard copy..
Nice bike FastHarley this is the link to v twin sorry they don't have a picture. I am a dealer fro v-twin, you should be able to find one in your area I didn't go with the cloth wire which the 68 had just the loom and wired with conventional wire the loom comes in 3 id sizes 3/16, 1/4 and 3/8 the 3/16 is almost to small for 2 wires but good for wire to coil and signals and the also do supply cloth wire in 25 ft lengths I'm still not done with wires!

I am still tuning out a lean condition miss bumped the intermediate jet to.032 but still some popping and stalls at times when I get out of the throttle. It got late so had to garage the bike for the day.
question for fastharley [or anyone]? where and what dose the starter relay look like. I have a small plastic one and was told it was the wrong one for the prestolite started it should be a metal one which will help my starter to not click click click before it finally engages! I would really like to solve this condition!
over the years I ran the bike with no starter at all so the OEM parts got away from me so I don't have them to compare to.
