I saw one of these in 40 s&w but didnt lay a hand on it..anyone have an opinion of this gun??? I have been thinking about the xd but the price on the sigma was 279 after a 50.00 mail in rebate vs a xd at 499 plus...thanks for any replies

The XD is a much better gun. With guns, you get what you pay for.
Early sigmas had barrell problems, but they've fixed it in later production runs.

I have a 40S&W Sigma, I didn't like it at first but it has never give me any trouble, shoots anything, only issue is stiff trigger but mine has gotten better, I had thought about trading it but I have decided to keep it........it gets better everytime I shoot it.

I got a sigma when the model first came out. Although I have only put a couple of thousand rounds though it, it has been very reliable and accurate.

I believe it was a copy of a Glock so much that Glock sued over it...I did go and holdthe Sigma and the XD i did like the XD betterhoping the range i want to go to has both to rent so i can make a decision.Thanks for the replies

I personally don't like the S&WSigma or XD. If you want a very accurate and reliable gun in 40cal. go with a Sig 229. The main thing that I do not like about the XD is the grip safety. Unlike a 1911, the XD's grip safety is very thin. I have fired the XD, if you have thick hands and you don't get the web of your palm in tight the gun will not fire. I just think that you can't beat a Sig.

I tried both the Smith sigma and the XD and bought the XD, both guns felt wonderful in my hands , weight, feel, pointing. But that is where the similarities ended. The XD was much nicer to shoot. No problems at all nice trigger. Had feeding probs with the Smith. Can't speak for the Sig, but IMHO you won't regret the XD.

I had an early .40 Sigma. Now I have the .40 V (Value) which is more compact. It was cheap, shoots every time, and you just pull it out and shoot. No thinking about releasing a safety if ever in a tight situation...

Sig all the way. You get what you pay for and I think my life is worth every cent.

Early model Sigma .40 here. Love the weapon. Shoots great, price was right, and only problem I've had was with thick primers on some crap reloads I bought at the local indoor range. Everything else has been top notch. If you're into the polymer frame guns, IMO the Sigma series is more streamlined and less "boxy" than the Glocks. SIGs are awesome weapons, no doubt. I've shot both. If price is an issue, I love the Sigma, and until I recently got a Kahr PM40 subcompact, my Sigma was my off-duty concealed carry weapon, and has been for a few years. If price is no issue, then SIG is the way to go. I've only handled the XD, not fired one yet. I didn't notice enough handling/feel difference to matter much, but the proof is obviously in firing it. Definitely fire all of your possible choices if have the opportunity.

I had a Sigma 40VE and I hate to say this, but after I sent it back to S&W 3 times for repairs, I traded it on a M&P40.

Repairs:
1. Would not fire, replaced entire striker assembly, mine was visably bent and would not strike the primer. The striker was leaving marks on the headstamp of the rounds.
2. Would not fire again, so they replaced the entire sear assembly (housing, springs, sear, etc.)
3. Would not fire again, so they replaced the barrel.

Got to where it would not fire every 4th or 5th round. I was fed up so I got the M&P. It is superior in design and has gone flawlessly through over 1000 rounds so far.

I'm not a S&W basher. I love 'em and still own a couple, but I won't buy another Sigma.

I just bought my 9mm Sigma a couple of weeks ago and have only put a couple hundred rounds though it. So far I really like it. My wife has fired it a few times and is deadly accurate with it. It was on sale for 299.99, got the 50.00 rebate and two more clips. I just couldn't pass it up at that price. A friend of mine got one several months ago and really likes it. Go for the S&W Sigma.

I think they are fine... For the money.. You want a self defense weapon and shoot on occasion...You will be fine......

they are Smiths copy attempt of the popular glock..... You have the dough find a used glock 23, or 27.... 400-450 or so...... the XD's are nice also.....

We have only had two issues with the Sigma: 1) the trigger on some models is real grainy and didn't really have a smooth pull; 2) finding holsters and accessories. I would be a little hesitant to purchase one of these without dry firing it and seeing how you like the trigger. Would also check with your favorite holster manufacturer to make sure you can get something to carry it in.

Great weapon for the price . MOst definately a copy of the Glock. Safety in the trigger and breaks down just like the GLock. Entry level price makes them affordableAS many have said you do get what you pay for. Sig is a great firearm as is HK and many others get what fits your hand and budget I carry a Glock 23 because it fits my hand I shoot it extremely well and it does not have a safety so to speak to remember to take off when stressed. I own others of various manufacturers to shoot.

Junk in my opinion, i compare them to a highpoint. Seen first hand way too many problems on the range with rookies who go out and buy the cheapest thing they can find that "looks cool". Only pistols I will trust in my holster on duty is a Glock, Sig, or a quality 1911.

Oh and im definitely not a smith and wesson basher, they make a few quality weapons like there old 659 line etc, there 1911's, and looks like the new M&P is working out well.

Never really liked Smiths autos....... the M & P seems to be their best yet.......... If I had limited funds, I would buy the sigma.... I think it would be decent for the price.... But for 100 bucks more you can find a good used Glock, or XD....Dont know how true, or if it is still the case, but heard years ago when SMith came out with the Sigma, GLock sued and then S & W had to give a portion of every sigma sold to GLock, thats when they dropped the price on them....
