I put Favre numero uno and Montana #2. The survey results has it the other way around with everyone else a distant third or lower.

Some of these quarterbacks were mediocre, just lucky to play with others that were much more talented . Brady is one that comes to mind. The Giants proved that. I put Aikman no. 1, Elway second.

I would really go Montana first, Farve second because of his longevity, and Elway third, with Manning and Brady hoping to make the list someday.

Not just being a Homer but when all is said and all of the downs have been played I think Manning will be on that list. Brady also, he does have three rings, I just couldn't give him a vote.

People so quickly forget that Drew Bledsoe was the QB of the 2001 Patriots team for most of the year, only getting hurt in like week 13....and Brady played in like 3 games....and he played well enough. When Bledsoe was healthy enough to come back, he lost his starting position.....

My point here is that Brady doesnt carry his team, guys like Favre, Marino, Elway, even Manning has carried their teams countless times. Brady's defense always managed to bail him out.......be it a fumble, interception, or a stop on a 4th down....

I find it also really funny how everyone seems to think Brady had this stellar year as a QB.....yeah, he had some really nice stats....but when your in the 3rd quarter of a game, up 30pts, and your starting QB is still throwing.....all your essentially doing is stat padding anyways....

And it took Brady 16 games to do what Manning did in essentially 13 games of playing...

as a long time Colt fan you would think that i would hate Elway but i dont and i personally thought he was as good as any of them and imo nobody but nobody did more with less, perhaps my boy Manning could secure a few more Super Bowls and elevate his status to the at least the short list.

For a while I thought no one could eclipse Montana.

I absolutly hate the Packers, but Farve would have to be #1 or #2 on my list and Mike Vick would be #1 on my prison league. And Brady, are you guys serious? Rex Grossman could be a stud on that team!!

Yeah but you have to be good be good enough to put youself in that position. And as far as his supporting cast goes, other than this year, he ahs had average at best WR's and RB's. Much like Aikman. He has had a very good line though, except in the SB. And before everyon jumps all over me, I am NOT a Pats fan.

Favre???? The all-time interception leader? I mean, I have much respect for the guy, but to rank him that high doesn't make sense. I seem to remember just as many bone head throws costing his team games as I can great games.

The guy won 3 Super Bowls with recievers that no one can name. He is pretty good.

I am a huge Cowboys fan and I only put Troy 8th. He just didn't have the numbers, and I only put him as high as I did because he was lights out in the post season. Would have won four Super Bowls if it wasn't for a bad qtr in SF that year in the playoffs.

Brady started 14 games in 2001 not 3. Drew went out in week 2 and only played a in part of a plyoff game the rest of the season.

Trying to rate a QB, or any individual player, from a team sport is impossible.

Factors such as offensive line, quality of running backs, quality of receivers, quality of defensive team, and many others allcombine to produce statistics, not just the ability of that player. The offensive line and the receivers have the most to do with a QB's ratings.

Take for example Brady this year...during the season when he had 4..5..6 or more average seconds in the pocket and he was completing passes, scoring touchdowns, and breaking records all over the place. Then when the Giants managed to beat the Pat offensive line consistently and take away that time to pass, Brady looked a 2nd string rookie, some passes being 15 yards off target.

How would Elway, Aikman, Young, Favre, Marino, Unitas, either Manning, etc have faired if they had the Pat's offensive line during a season...and how would they have faired with the Pat's Super Bowl offensive line play?
Personally I think any NFL starting QB would have set passing and touchdown records if they had the offensive scheme, offensive line, and receivers that the Pat's did last season. And I think they all would have sucked big time in the same situation Brady found himself in during the Super Bowl. Marino might have faired the best simply due to his super quick release.

Another example is the 2008 Pat's and the Cowboys of the 1990's. Aikman was the QB of a run oriented team and Brady was the QB of a pass oriented team. Of course Brady should have superior passing numbers since he played in a passing offensive scheme and didn't have an Emmitt Smith lined up behind him. On the other hand, was Aikman's passing success onlybecause the opponents had to guard against Emmitt first then worry about the pass?

Unless you can put them in the same game situations with the same player personnel and the same opponents there is no way to make a subjective comparison.

Actually I have read on more than one occasion that Don Merideth might have been the best QBs ever had he had an offensive line and all the other components that are needed for success. Nobody will ever know.
