What Monk said.
And everybody else. Some V-rods are approaching 100,000 miles with only oil and filters changes. They do have a tendency to go through rear tires in a hurry.
(Check out "Birth of the V-rod" on Discovery and "Super Factories: Harley Davidson" on NatGeo if you get a chance. This engine is no accident.)

Five years and two V-rods..that's what...2 front tires and 10 rears?
(I have to get a new rear tire SOON! I managed almost 8,500 miles on this one.)

I have an '06 Night Rod that has had zero problems.  It is faster than I could possibly want to go, and yet is a comfortable bike for multi-hour trips.  Plus it's rare enough that most people think it's some sort of custom bike.  Can't even think of a negative.

I believe I read somewhere once that the Revolution engine was by FAR the least problematic engine ever released by HD I know on other V-Rod sites that many owners are touting mileages up near 70,000 miles with zero problems

30,000 miles and no problems. This is the best kept secret in the HD line up! But I think the masses will soon figure this out

And they are riding them hard, shifting at 6000 rpm and redlining. No problems.

Yes, they are that good!!  I've rode and wrenched on Harley's since 1976...  Bar none, the revolution motor is the best motor to ever come out of the factory...  And it is solid thru out, no problems...  The only problem you will have is keeping a quantity of rear tires for it ...  The only weak point that I can see is the suspension...  The stock shocks are not the best in the world but, there are plenty of after market upgrades that will improve that portion of the bike...  It is the smoothest Harley I've ever owned, the fastest Harley (soon to have a Trask Turbo) I've ever owned, and corners like it belongs there   Good luck with your hunt for a V-Rod, you won't be dissappointed ...

The best bike that H-D sells in my opinion is the V Rod; the engineering quality that whent into these V Rod model is bar-none.
Before I bought one, I always wonderd why H-D brought out the V Rod; most dealers do not konw much about them.

Runs cooler, water cooled, more power, higher rev limit, more reliable power plant, quicker/faster than any other model.

Have 1855 miles on my 200 HP V Rod with no issues.

First, he has an SE, a 1250. Second, I'm guessing big bore kit. Third, I'm betting he has a blue bottle on the other side. That adds up to 200hp at the rear last I heard.

Task Turbo at 8 pounds of boost may = 160HP.

Trask Turbo on Weisco 1320 with 12 lbs boost = 200+ HP

You can cram as much air as you dare into the motor.  When you approach 200HP, you're on the jagged edge.  The cases can't hold much more than that before grenading themselves.

This SE made an (8.5 PSI) easy 165-169 max at the wheel; every dyno run the numbers improved a little, I have a water/methanol injection system on it to cool the turbo intake temps down on mid-to-high RPM runs and keeps the carbon off the internal engine parts.

When I remove the intake and look down at the valves, they are as clean as new; the pistions/spark plugs looks like new as well.

This system is the safest way to get more power instead of NOS route, I feel a major power difference from when it is off, and from when its on.

On my past turbo rides this system has added about 40-50 HP depending on meth/water mix.

I also plunmbed in coolant lines to the turbo cartage as well for better heat dissipation, and getting cool oil supply from the cool side of the motor instead of the hot side, like at the oil filter housing as per Trask install instructions.

Not many that can set that up properly. Kudos! I have cousin that used alcohol/water injection on his supercharged pro-stock Camaro. He had no problem with hot-lapping the car.

This W/I is very easy to dial in beacuse it is all computer controlled; uses boost PSI to inject w/m into the intake.

Tbones, The first thing is to tap into the left (shifter side) side of the oil cooler line for the oil supply for the turbo. This left side is the cool side.

Look in your V Rod manual in the oil section, there is a flow diagram with temperature color flow; hot oil comes from the oil filter housing into the oil cooler on right, than flows threw oil cooler to the right side back into the motor.

Trask is getting its oil from the oil filter housing, this is the hottest point on the V Rod motor, cool oil is better for a turbo.

The second thing is that this turbo is a dual ball bearing oil and water cooled; this kit is not using the water cooling feature, sence the V Rod is water cooled, decided to plumb coolant lines to the turbo cartrage.

This is a cheap do-it-your-self job, I used chromemite lines, not cheap; one could use lesser $$$ lines if needed.

Buy a shop manual if you do not already have one.

Bryon703 - Ok, sounds good.  I already have a manual and I'm familiar with the oiling circuit on the V-Rod.  Does this W/I system come with the Trask Turbo or did you purchase it seperate from the kit?  I talked to Nick a little about the turbo, I wanted to find out if the Power Commander will work or if I had to get the race tuner.  He said the PC would work and will send me a map.  Of course, without a dyno in my area, I will probably have to old school and tweak the map as I go along.  You plumbed in the coolant system into the cartridge?  I am assuming that is the unit on top of the intakes.  I downloaded the installation PDF file from the site, it looks fairly straight forward.  How long to do run the bike at idle before you shut down?  With the cooling system you installed, does this eliminate having to idle for a bit to let the turbo cool down before you shut down the engine?  Anyways, thanks for the info it is appreciated.  I look forward to putting this baby on the scoot   I'm getting the same kit that you have, the chrome system.  I'll take pic's once I'm done and post.  I'm also purchasing the electric shifter by Pingle   Once I finish with that, then it will be on to modifying the suspension (shocks, springs etc.) and install the wide tire kit.  I figure by the time I'm done with this 05, it should motate down the rode and put a smile on my face   Thanks again for the input.  Cya

Bryon703 - Another question for you.  I noticed on your "pic" in your earlier post a container hanging off in front of your radiator.  Is this part of the W/I system you are talking about?  By the way, nice looking V-Rod  You pic also shows a cylinder just below the exhaust pipe, is this part of the system you installed on this bike?  I also noticed no blueing on the exhaust pipe.  Does this kit have heat shields?  I can't tell by your photo whether or not I'm looking at shields or what.  Again, thanks for the help.

Thanks.

This W/Ij system is (yes that is the W/I tank out front) seperate from the Trask kit; If I were you, I would stay away from using a Power Commander on any H-D bike.
It seems like some amout have problems with it; I run the SERT on my V Rod have yet have to mess with it unlike other with the PC.

The turbo cartridge is the middle of the turbo; there are three sections of a turbo, exhaust housing/ bearing cartridge/ intake housing.
This bearing cartridge has two ports on eather side for plumbing water cooling lines.

The idle time begins when I put the side stand down/ ear plugs/gloves/helmet/eye protection are all off with helmet is hanging from the right hand grip; than I turn the bike off. You will hear the turbo wheel  spin down to a compleat stop after the bike is turned off, if you hear no spin down than it's not good.

Blueing on a turbo anything is not realy good, no blueing (on pipe) below my heat sheilds; I think the kit might come with upper/lower H/S, but I make sure before hand.

Another note; if one is running lean, the exhaust turbo header will be white in color instead of nice silver color that it once was.

If this happens than one will be replacing a valve or valve's in most cases.
A good tune for the start and add a W/I kit to cool down the intake temps from the turbo boost.

Thanks for the tips and info.  I'm still debating on whether to spend $400+ for the Race Tuner.  I've heard good and bad about the PC and Vance & Hines Fuel Pak yet, I have each and have zero problems with either   It took a bit to get the map right on the PC for the V-Rod and the Fuel Pak map that V&H's gave me after I told them the bike was running flat, runs great.  Guess I'm just lucky in the draw.  If I do go with the SERT, the deciding factor will be the ability to change the rev limit.  This will be the first turbo bike I've rode so I'm sure I'll be hitting some bumps in the road along the way but, if I blow something up that just gives me a excuse to finally tear into the Revolution motor   One final question, on a google search I can't find too much out there for a W/I system (kit) for motorcycles.  Did you purchase yours as a kit or put it together yourself?  I really like the idea of running a W/I system, it just makes sense   Kachingggggggg there goes another hundred dollars...  That is what HD stands for, right?  Thanks again for the help...  Cya

With all the above being said, the V-rod is like any other machine: It's only as good as the care and maintenance given too it.

When I bought my SE I also bought a H-D extended warranty. I had the same dealer do the install of the Trask kit and they (that dealer only) will honor the extended warranty if anything major should
