After demo-ing a Night Rod Special last Monday, I think I'm hooked...
I've never ridden a more comfortable, more balanced & more perfectly-poised bike than the NRS. Not that I previously thought they were cheeky or anything, they just didn't interest me... But the "don't knock it 'till you ride it" statement definitely came to fruition the minute I swung my leg over the bike and planted myself into the saddle. Wow. What does a used V-Rod go for in the Central Florida area?...

V-Rods', converting people one at a time! I don't know pricing in FL but up north the NRS hold there value the best out of all the Rods. The cheapest i have seen in Ohio is $13,500. Try HD trader, put your zip in as the search limiter.

Guitarman, did you do this as part of the Harley roadshow at the Orlando dealership? If so, how did the process work? Were there a lot of people, how long did it take, etc.? Thanks.

Cicero,
Sure did. It's part of the Orlando area dealers' Bike Week festivities, and the demo rides are being held at East Orlando Harley-Davidson on Lake Underhill on the east side of town. The dealership at I-4 is serving alcohol, so they won't do demo rides there. Plus there's a lot less traffic and crowds at the east location. 10am-4pm every day through this coming Sunday, which is the last day.
The whole process is very easy, just show up wearing pants and a shirt, shoes, glasses and your motorcycle-endorsed license and you're good to go. You have to wear a helmet, but they'll provide a 1/2-lid if you don't bring your own. Sign a couple forms including a liability release form and then you're good to go. They give you a little "registration" slip with a unique ID number that they use to reserve the bike you want for each ride and also to skip the paperwork when you come back on a different day. Not many people, you could probably go out with every single group all day long and try every single bike at least once (except the Cross bones, somebody cracked the throttle too hard on one of the rides and got thrown off the bike, it went down and is in the shop for the rest of the week because they don't have the parts to fix it; so you won't get to try that one).
The ride's about 10-15 minutes, a big circle of right-hand turns that takes Lake Underhill to Alafaya, to Curry Ford, then to Dean, and finally back onto Lake Underhill. Simple little route, not much traffic. Again, with no big crowds in line to try these things out, you stand a good chance of several rides in a row on whatever bike you want to try out. I hope to head out again tomorrow and spend a little more time with that Night Rod Special...
You planning on coming out tomorrow (Friday)? If you are, PM me and we'll get in touch.
RE: After demo-ing a Night Rod Special last Monday, I think I'm hooked...
Paulo, thanks for the gracious invite. I will not be there Friday. Perhaps Saturday, Sunday or both. I am interested in the V-Rod and Road King. I have a Deuce and my brother has a Night Train and a Springer Classic. All of those are very similar. I want to try something that is not like what I have already ridden.
I appreciate you telling me that I was about to show up at the wrong dealership. That would have stunk. But the East Orlando place is much further away, as I am coming from Plant City. If you are available during the weekend, I'll take you up on hooking up.

Same as everywhere else: about 142 mph. Or did you mean in dollars?
Why would you even consider trying anything as addictive as a V-rod?!?!?! Same story here. I really had no interest in the V-rods. Thenwe test rode a Night Rod at the factory reps suggestion. After two weeksmy wife and I couldn't handle the withdrawls so we bought an '06 Night Rod.
Both the D and DX seem to hold their value. $10-13K seems to be the norm for a used one.

Guitarman -
I love my '06 Night Rod. It's like the best of both worlds - faster than you'll ever want to go, but still has that great custom bike look. I also think that it is way more comfortable than it has a right to be.

By the way - why Guitarman? Are you a player, collector, or what? I'm very much an amature player, but love guitars and have about 20 (I haven't counted recently).

You got that right Caymen. I love the looks on the sport bikers faces when they realize it was a Harley that just followed them through the twisties AND there are two people on the Harley! (My wife knows how to hang on.)
