Default Yet more SERT questions ??!!

Just when I thought I had read enough to make a decision to get the SERT, I just 'HAD' to read another post or two and now I amback toconfused. So for any DIYer'swho haverecently purchased a SERT, does the kit still come with a CD. Some posts have indicated that the CD's are no longer being included. Of course, this means that the dealer must now do the downloads for you. Yes, $360 is still a lot to pay for a CD and an ECM adapter thingy, but it's REALLY alot for just the thingy !!

Also, to those who have the CD, does it include canned maps for non-Harley products (like Rinehart Duals?)?

Thanks for any response.

Default RE: Yet more SERT questions ??!!

I priced the 32107-01L tuner for my 2008 at my local dealer last night and they told me HD lowered the price and they are now selling them for $320 and the ones they have in stock included the 4.77 CD. I assume that if you order one from HD, it maybe not include the CD but older in stock ones should have the latest CD included. To compare, they quoted me $466 for the newer super tuner.

I really don't have much knowledge about the tuners, just what I've priced out so far.

Also it does not come with the required cables if you are going to hook it up to your computer. That is another $30 option that you will need.

I just went from Power Commander to SERT mainly because the person I am going to have dyno tune the bike is a SERT guy. Also it eliminates the add on box of the PCIII. I bought the cable kit and the SERT with the CD. Total cost was $355.

fireman403,

Regarding the SERT and software, as the others have said, it's a crap shoot what you'll find either in the dealerships or on eBay.

About your second question, would you mind sending some of whatever you've been taking that gets you that high? (Jus' kiddin'.) C'mon now, Harley Davidson providing ANYTHING that does not carry, or support, the H-D brand and profit margins- not a chance.

All of the base maps provided on the CDROM that accompanies (or stand alone) the SERT donglewere developed using H-D components. The best you can do is to find a base mapin the manual based on what you have that is close to what they used to develop the map.

Example:I have an '07 FLHTC stock motor, Dresser Duals, Rinehart Eagle Beak SOs, H-D SE A/C with a K&N filter element. For my base map, I went to the '07 listings (havingboth F & R 02 sensors) for the TC96 motor, and used the map (cal #67) which is for a stock motor (heads, cams, pistons), but with the H-D SE air filter and 'shorty dual' exhaust. Why the shorty dual exhaust? I removed the 'Y' crossover pipe when the Dresser Dualls went on. The fact that I can look straight through the Rineharts and there are no obstructions, like baffles, only serves to make my set-up closer, but not exactly like the H-D shorty duals characteristics. The air cleaner (K&N vs. H-D) is a technical wash.

But, this is only a good starting point, one that I can run for a short period of time until the bike gets into the hands of a tuner that'll dial it in to both of our likings.

Get an L version or even older one cheaper if you can find it and download the V477 software. I have the E version and the V477 works just fine. I say this because when you get a SERT you are going to keep playing with it until you wring every last bit of performance and reliability you can out of your bike. Then it will collect dust until you change your mods and you will do it all over again. I have re-mapped my bike at least 40 times and figure I am now about 98% perfect.

OR you will take it to a dyno guy and he will tune it. At that point you will want the SERT because it is the best tool for custom tuning. IMO.
