i am in possesion of a 1960 panhead that has been stripped down to the last bolt. i just rebuilt the wheels and wow do they look nice. i'm trying to keep it as OEM as i can.

everything is original and it was an excellent pan to restore. when i took the star hub cover off the paper gasket was in one piece and pulled right off the hub.

i have hand sanded from 80 gritt in some spots to 1000 wet on the aliminum front end pieces. then buffed .from the lower legs to the shroud. i will be posting photo's and asking for advise.

the coolest part of this whole build is i was born in 1960!!!

thanks in advance to all members

This sounds like much FUN Shrktooth, your a lucky guy!
Are you going to post us some images?
Is this bike one you are keeping? {silly ? I bet you are!}
when I was doing the polishing on my Shovel I took the sanding from 800 to 1200 and finished off with Trizac 3000 grit made the buffing so fast I couldn't believe it. My finger tips are still sore from sanding the engine cases and I had them maybe 1/2 done when I rebuilt the 74 back in the 80's.
how did you come by an original Pan?

just dropped the bare frame, the triple trees, and the swing-arm off to the sandblaster.

will post pictures when i get them back.

I have checked with some top Pan-Resto dudes and the bike will be built to exact original specs.

no powder coating and i believe it is the option #4 package that is in the books.

well..... it is going to be all black....so.... i guess it won't be an exact resto
