Didn't bother me til my ass shrunk, I now have added some foam to the Cobra and it's just fine. At 60 I'm ready for a softer seat, will have mine redone while I'm rebuilding the chop after my accident. The main problem I've had is when you hit a big bump it wants to slam you back into the fender, padding at the ass holds you in the seat. I just never liked the spring seats much. Just a personal thing.

yeah, that seat ain't what I'd call a keeper. If you do up a real seat, you might like it a little better. If the fender can support it, a King/queen with back support. you can add some gel and three inches of foam. Have you ever given any thought to flipping the headlight over? Just curious. But it is one baddd baddd ride...

Yeah it's in progress now. I'm no bike builder but hopefully it will turn out to be a fair backyard build! The sprocket is the last part to choose, all the other parts are waiting to go on. I'm weak on gear ratio's so I've been looking for advice everywhere. I got the impression the 22 / 48 was pretty low and gives good low end performance but lowers your highway top speed. I'm looking for good medium ground, I don't want to drag race, but i dont want to sacrifice the torque of takoff for low highway rpm's. I'll probably go with a 23 tooth unless someone says otherwise.

For what it's worth, I ran for years with a 20/49 and had terrific acceleration, even ran at the drags for a couple of years. Unfortunately, this ratio also made for a real busy engine at 60-70mph, not real comfortable. Recently switched to a 24/49 and 60-70 is now in a smooth part of the rpm range. Doesn't have the same launch but makes for a better ride all around. Still has a great 50 mph rollon for passing. 23/48 is a similar ration and should work for you. A chop is considerably lighter the most HDs and doesn't need a "granny low" to get it moving.

So now you know why they are called hardtails.Make your tail hard from abuse.I just finished one.Its just bar hopper though 10 to 12 mile shots most times so after 5 or 6 bars ass already numb. But hey its cool bike.Im not much on the high frontends myself.but that the fun of it.Its still looks cool just never liked the handling point.

I've hard if you let a little air out in the back tire that will help....problem is you have no sidewall, so you're kinda screwed. ~Joe

Don't recommend lower than 35 psi, too soft and you're likely to pop the bead if you hit something. Handling will be a lot squirrelier than normal if you hit any kind of sweeper at speed. For you guys smilin' cause you got tubes, the handling is only worse because of the additional weight of the tubes floppin' around. I've been riding hardtails for 45 yrs and found the secret to a smooth ride is in the seat, the type, the fit, cushions or springs. Also keep in mind that the less air pressure the more that tire will grow, they do, like a drag slick. I learned that when my seat mount bolt cut the center out of a brand new Dunlop. Pump it up, Pad the seat, ride like you want!

Nice scoot! I've had my current bike for 30 years. I run about 22 lbs. in the rear, but I have some sidewall. Its a 130/90-16, basically a stock tire. Got a contour seat, so hardly any padding, about 1-1/2 inch foam. I trimmed down the seat bolt so I didn't slash the tire. As far as a rough ride, you'll get used to it. I did! I . . . sorry, gotta pee! (The kidneys aren't what they used to be.) :)

that is killer man! That bike is too hot to just toss aside, put a thicker seat or a spring seat on it.

got a plate for mine tuesday and have put on about a hundred miles. The ride is't bad at all till I get up to 65 - 70 then the vibration is severe, more in the feet than the hands. I don't know if some fine tuning will smooth it out or not. I traveled a few bumpy roads and it does take some of the fun out of it; not just the bumping but also the uncontrolable twisting of throttle causes a bit of lurching... that gets old quick! I don't recommend going fenderless unless you want a shower every time you pass through water, I mean any water. I went through a few puddles and streams after a rain and was shocked by how much water came up in my face. I quickly learned to look to the side when crossing water!

Helpful hints from another Hardtail rider: A) I upped my gear ratio with a larger main drive trans sprocket, smooth up to 80+. B) Set the drag on your throttle so it will just back off when you let go, will smooth out the action on the bumpies. C) Get a fricken front fender. Good Luck, enjoy!

Thanks DeJavu, I'm allready shopping for the fender. I have a 23 tooth sprocket on the trany, and a 48 tooth at the back wheel. I discovered that when I start bumping I can bridge the gap between the throttle and the mount with my thumb and that keeps the throttle from slapping back and forth. Here is another problem. Last night the backside of my ignition switch poped off. I have it mounted off of the upper motor mount which gets pretty hot. Could it be that this location is too hot for the switch or is the switch just a piece of crap!

The combination of heat and vibs, plus a cheap switch, yea it can't take it. I located a standard old style automotive key switch(on/off/acc) on a small bracket on the frame under the seat. Has lasted 14 yrs. I run 24/48 but that would not raise the vib range much over 23/48. Mine hits it between 70 and 80, over 80 it smooths out, lets me know if I'm speeding . If you want to cut some of the hand vibes, experiment with different weights placed inside the handlebars at the grips, it helps if you find something that works. The Kury Iso pegs/pads can help the foot vibes. Rigid or Sloptail the vibration is a challenge, Good Luck! PS Damn though, the rigid hooks up so good on the drag strip, what a blast!

Put the switch back together and pined the back throught the side with bailing wire ('bout 3/32" dia.) Rode another 100 miles and still holding together! The temp was about 103 degrees. It's not nearly as comfortable or as quick as my twincam but more satifying!
