Alright everyone,
I am trying to get the ball rolling for our 2nd Annual Mid Atlantic Rally/Meet & Greet. This will be the same time as the Gettysburg Bike Week, July 10-12. I have blocked off 40 rooms at the Hilton Garden Inn right in Gettysburg. This is the same hotel we were at last year.
The rate for the hotel will be $132 plus tax per night. I know some people felt this was a little high last year, but honestly I could not find anything cheaper for a big group. I will say this though, The hotel is very nice and the location is great. There is a grocery store right behind it and a package store right in front of it so you can get beer. There is a gas station next door and a McDonalds right across the street for breakfast. It is about a mile from Battlefield Harley and about 5 miles from the Eisenhower complex where all the vendors are.
The hotel also has a restaurant and an indoor pool, and they are giving us a hospitality room free of charge for all three nights. We had a great time last year an I hope we can get even more people together this year. I would like to get a group ride on Sat, and maybe a group tour of the York plant too.
I am just getting this started, so if anyone wants to help let me know. I will post more info as it develops. I just wanted to let everyone know to start making plans and saving your pennies.

UPDATE: York Harley Plant tour, Friday, July 11, 10:00
I got a reservation for a group tour of the York Plant. This plant makes the Softails and Touring bikes. The tour time is 10:00 Friday 11 July. I was told that the tour will be limited because they will be in the middle of new model production and this is just prior to the public release of the '09s. I think it will still be a good day trip since York is only a short ride from Gettysburg. So, Hey, Why not, right? The tour is limited to 18 people so I will save spots on a first come first served basis. PM me if you are interested in the tour.

Talked to the wife about it tonite and she was actually interested in going. (this is a first for her, she's not much into the bike thing...).
I was going to go for at least a day, but this sounds like a good way for us to get away from work and the kids for a few days.

Man they really gouge on prices for Bike Week. I made my reservation for the Hilton Garden on my own at the end of July and paid $89 a night.

Yeah Monster,
Every place I looked at was well over $100 a night. The sales manager claimed that their standard summer rate is $150. She said they don't change the rate for Bike week, it is just in the middle of tourist season. Believe me, I would love to find something cheaper, I even gave her the hard sell to try to get her to come down more, but no luck. I talked to Punisher and I think he ran into the same thing last year. I really hope it doesn't keep too many people away. I'm just saving my pennies now.
So you are going to be there later in the month? Does that mean you guys aren't going to make it for the rally?

No that is for the rally. Our reservation is 7/11 - 7/13. I just made my reservations on my own last summer. I don't know if we are gonna make it for as many days as we thought due to vacation time being used elswhere. I'm keeping the room up until I know for sure. If nothing else we will be coming up for the day on Saturday.

Wife already told me she wants to drive, which works out for me, no needing to pack my bike full of gear. My neighbors are interested as well, but the room rate might be a little steep for them. You can count me and the wife in for sure though.
How many folks attended last year?

We had a blast last year but unfortunately won't be able to make it this year. The Hilton Garden is a very nice hotel in a great location. The meeting room itself was a great thing...a place for everyone to meet & hang out and they provided a marker board so we could post up meeting times, etc.

Look in Frederick for cheaper places. There are tons of hotels in Frederick. I'll be riding there on either Saturday or Sunday.

I'll chime in on staying somewhere else. The PARTY will be at the hotel where everyone stays. Last year we hung out in the meeting room and the pool/patio area drinking and having fun till the wee hours of the morning. You might be able to stay somewhere else cheaper but you'll miss all the fun!

I'm sorry to hear you and Shawn will not be able to make it Heather, but I totally understand. You guys had a beast of a ride last year. Thanks for your help in "promoting" the venue. I have said from the start I would love to find something cheaper, but for so many reasons I think it is a good spot. you guys definitely helped make it a great time last year.

I'm glad to hear you and the wife will make it. If she is bringing the cage I might request a little support from you, like bringing a cooler or a radio so we can use them in the hospitality room. I will be riding my bike up so I will be limited on space.
Last year we had about 30-35 people for the Saturday group ride. Some of those people came up for the day. I have 40 rooms blocked, so we should have plenty.
I fully understand that price will be a factor for many. It is for me too. I split a room with my cousin last year and will do the same this year too. The rate is for single to quad occupancy, so try to find a few folks who might be willing to share a room. You won't spend much time in it anyway! You can also come up on Friday and save a day. I think Thursday will be kinda quite. The main reason I am going on Thursday is so I can make sure they are ready for us, and I would really like to try to go to York on Friday morning and get a tour of the Harley Plant. I am going to call this week about a group tour. I will keep you all informed.

I have no problem helping out by bringing any extras we might need. Think they will let me use my grill in the hospitality room? 
In-laws gave the thumbs up to watching the kids for us, so now it's a matter of waiting for July to roll around. If the rooms are quad occupancy then my neighbors should have no problem with the money and of it. Wife and I can easily afford the room ourselves, but if it helps them out I have no problem bunking with them.
Most likely, we will head out on Friday morning and get a room for Fri and Sat nite. I'd love to go Thursday, but with the kids and work taking that extra day off makes it tough.
If ya need a hand setting anything up let me know in pm's or by e-mail.

It's great to hear you are cleared in hot. I will get with you as it gets closer. If you have any ideas for a good group ride on Sat., start thinking about that. Since I am not from that area I will be relying on locals for good routes. We did a good run last year. About 100 miles with a stop at Appalachian Harley.

Thanks for the pm reply. You talked me into switching motels. I just talked to the desk at the Hilton. They are sold out July 10 - 13. I mentioned that the forum had a block of rooms reserved. The desk clerk said that he cannot override the computor to access those rooms...so....if your calling for reservations, make sure you call between 9 -5 and speak to a manager. I'll book for the wife and I tomorrow. Look forward to meeting and riding with some new people.

Great to hear Mark! I called today about the reservation issue that Stash had and talked to a guy named Mitchell. I made my reservation today with no problem, however it was showing us in the system as HD Fouran. Ann, the sales woman I am working with was out, so I will talk to her later today to fix that. It should not be a problem to go ahead and make your reservations though.
As of 10:30 this morning there are 38 rooms left for the group! The rooms will be released to the general public on June 10th, so do not wait till the last minute. The hotel is already sold out.

It was a blast last year, but I like many will not be making the trip, and it was a long one. Between all of the local rally's we have in this area, I'm going to stay a little more local this year, MBBW, Cherokee, CMM, and if Ron and Lynn can convince me I'll do OC bike week (now that was a blast).
