Just joined the forum after seeing the posts on the EVOs. I have an all original 1985 FXRT that seems to get rarer and rarer. FXRT parts come available on e-Bay from parted out bikes and new spare parts are harder and harder to find. Mine is low mileage for the year and is at times an odd bike for newer riders. Thought of selling a number of times but rethought after seeing an '84 in the Harley travelling museum.
Many other FXRTs out there?

My father-in-law has an '84 that looks exactly like this one:
it used to be his daily driver up until about 5 years ago. Now his son rides it here and there and doing regular maitenance on it. I guess it's having an enjoyable retirement.

I have an 84 FXRP.  I was told it was the same as the fxrt.  It's been in the garage for a year.  I consider it a p.o.s. compared to the pics I've seen here but it's mine.  I am gonna try and find the old fairing and bags to put on but first the mechanical issues.

My old 1984 FXRT looked just like that one in the picture, except the aircleaner was not round. Mine had the old rectangle version found on the last of the Shovelheads. I've seen a few other 1984 Harleys with that old aircleaner as well? I guess Harley was trying to rid themselves of AMF era stuff perhaps.

Excellent bikes though....nice touring bike and handled great as well. The windshield was one of Harleys best attempts at windshields. In my opinion, the FXRT was one of the best bikes ever on the road. Too bad they didn't sell well....or they'd still be making them today.

I sold that bike just a few years ago.....I had too many bikes and not enough room. The FXRT was beginning to get extremely difficult to find parts for.

Shouldn't be that hard to get parts.  It's just an FXR with some extra fiberglass.  Might be hard to find parts for the fiberglass pieces.

Glad to see there are people outy there with older EVO's.  I have a 1985 FLHTC that I use as my daily ride to work and local riding.  It had the old Ham Can Style air cleaner cover.  The bike has been updated with a CV Carb and I just recently change the clutch actuator to the ball and ramp style instead of dealing with that fork that breaks.

'85 fxrt here that is now a fxr.   When I was young and dumb, and full of c_m, I didn't want an old foggies bike so I stripped it down to an fxr, painted it, still have it and love it.  Now I wish I still had the touring parts for it.  However, they did go to a good home because there was an old guy riding his fxrt everyday around my area and he had cracked it up somewhere.  His pieces were barely on his bike and he looked like he lived on that bike.  I saw him one day at a gas station and told him of my extra parts.  He was a nice old guy with barely a pot to piss in and his bike had a lot of miles on it.  I told him he could have all the extra parts for a hundred bucks. Man did he light up.  He came over one day in a beat up van that barely ran, loaded up the parts, thanked me over and over.  I saw him once or twice after that and he was smiling!

Replaced the coil and got it running.  Sounds great.  Was gonna sell it but since everyone seems satisfied with theirs I'm gonna keep it for a while.  Now maintenance issues and gotta find some turn signals.  Another fxr on the road soon.
