New Voltage Regulator, New Stator, Oil and Primary Oil change, rear brake pads...
I have no clue what my indie wrench is gonna charge for all this. I know he will be fair, and he is a good guy, but what would your estimate be? i will let you guys know what the final bill comes to.
Thanks for the input. I forgot to add something. My points were fried also, so they had to be replaced.
Question for lecomte38... You say it's rare for both to go out, but here is what happened. Bike was going along, I heard two sparking noises, similar to what you would hear in a movie when a power line goes down. Loud sparks. Then two backfires, Pop, Pop. My guess is one from each cylinder, then she died.
I stopped by the shop yesterday and the wrench showed me the stator and the volt reg and both looked bad, real bad. The stator was fried and the wires coming from the volt reg were cooked.
Thought I would give you an update in case you were interested. The points were removed from the bike and the original igintion was put in. Bike runs a hell of a lot better. All of the work was done at Outlaw Motorcycles (110 Lamar St)in Keller, TX and Frank (Owner) did one hell of a job with the bike. She runs like she is supposed to now.
I hate to be a SA but stator or volt regulator. It is pretty rare for both to go bad at once.
When my charging system failed, the regulator passed the tests in the service manual and stator voltage was too low.
I replaced the stator and the voltage came up to spec.
I plugged in the regulator and it still didn't work.
I replaced the regulator and all is well.
It does happen.
