Anyone here tried 'em yet? What do you think? I'm thinking about giving them a shot but I'd like to hear a set before I buy. Are they as loud as the standard ovals?

I checked their web site this afternoon, and it sound that those pipes will be available April 2008. So I'm not sure where you heard them, i don't remember seeing a sound clip on the web page for those new pipes.
What is the difference between the Ovals and the Basics? Is one louder than other?

As much as I would love to be the first, I have to be very careful with the money I spend right now (it really sucks being broke). I'd hate to make a $1,000 mistake that could have been avoided. I know I like the way Rinehart and Bassani sounds and I like the V&H ovals but I really like the way the new Monster Ovals look. However, between the two, I'd rather have it sound the way I want instead of look great (since I can't look at them while I ride anyhow!). Thanks for the replies so far guys.

MandM Cycles is selling them for $585 plus shipping. There is a waiting list.
I sure hope they are quieter than the standard ovals I'm running now or I'll be really disappointed. But I do like the looks. Of course I like the looks of my ovals now too.
Wolfie40 asked which were louder the Ovals or the Basics. Having had both I can say that the Basics are louder with their straight through design. But a lot depends on which bike you are putting them on. I have a '06 Screamin Eagle Ultra with the 103". Everything is louder on this bike. Then I added the V&H Dresser Duals. True duals also make mufflers louder.
It will be interesting to see what people think of the Monsters once there are a few sets installed.

Someone else in these forums had called V&H and ask about the loudness of the ovals. V&H replied, there the quietest mufflers we make.
I recently installed a set of V&H dresser duals and there ovals. The V&H ovals sound great, not to loud under 3000 rpm (nice cruising sound) but when you punch it, WOW, they come alive.

I have a set of V&H turndown slip-ons on my 2008 RKC. I love the look. But the dang things make my brain drone after 20 minutes. Loud and droning. So I'm super-keen to hear opinions about the new monster ovals. I have a feeling they'll be my next investment.
I think I might look into these monsters as I bought bub 7 td because they were supposed to be quieter than the rindhearts and not everyone had them but they are too loud for me . I was wondering if anyone has had a direct loudnes comparison with the reg ovals to the bub 7 or rindhearts ? Stock was too quiet eventhough they did become louder with the addition of the rsd air cleaner. thanks in advance for any info. Charlie
Dont forget that a engine with more compression will be louder than a stocker . We did a 96 inch bike that had the ovals we bumped compression to 9.6 and a andrews 37 cam. The customer pulled the pipes as they where too loud for him. We noticed a fair amount of noise increase as well. Sound is one thing that is hard to really describe, you need to hear the pipes first hand I think to get a really good idea vs a sound clip. I know that it is not always possiable though and the sound clip is the next best thing.

I spoke to someone at Vance and Hines yesterday about the Monster Ovals and specifically asked about the sound and asked if he had actually heard them and if so, on what bike.
He mentioned the bike her heard them on was a new Street Glide with only AC, Fuel Pack (or what ever Vance uses) and the Monster Ovals. The guy stated that the Monster Ovals are 3 - 5 dec. lower in sound than the standard Ovals but have a definite deeper sound. He also mentioned more power as well but folks should let the dyno tell them that. I asked for some specification and he was unable to give me any but did say the Monster Ovals weigh more than the Ovals and are a good bit larger - width wise. From the picture I've seen, they look pretty beafy.
He mentioned that the first shipments are scheduled to be released to vendors during the week of April 28th and shipment to customers should occur shortly thereafter.
Again, the guy stated that customers will notice a difference in sound (deeper rumble) but the pipes will be radio friendly.

As I posted here earlier, I have a set of the Monster's on order from M&M Cycles. V&H was suppose to release then around mid April. They are still not out. The last Mark at M&M heard was he should see them around the end of May. I'm not exactly sure what the problem is but V&H sure screwed this one up. In the future don't announce a release date until you are positive you can meet it!!
Hate to be the one to say it, but my dealer put these on order for me in early April and just gave me the update that they wont be in until the end of JULY! Must be a hell of a back order... I checked the V&H website and they did post an mp3 of the sound: monster ovals Pretty Sweet...

I ran the July date past Mark at M&M Cycles and got a response from him this moring. He says everything he has heard (talks with both V&H and Drag Specialites) indicate a May 28th release.
Apparently V&H is waiting on the end caps from both the chromers and the coaters.
After ordering in March, monster ovals and true duals are finally installed on '08 ultra classic. They are monster in size. radio friendly, and high quality. I believe they are quieter than ovals and truly deeper sounding. Worth the wait.

I''ve had my Monster Ovals on my ''06 SE Ultra (also running the V&\\;H Dresser Duals) for a week and have about 600 miles on them. \\; They replaced the regular V&\\;H ovals. \\; They are big, but I''m now use to the looks. \\; A whole different sound than the regular ovals. \\; No raspyness or cracking when you pop the throttle. \\; Just a nice low deep rumble. \\; They are not quiet, but not as loud as the regular ovals. \\; I''ve had about 8-9 different sets of slip-ons on my bike searching for the ideal muffler. \\; These are the best yet. \\; And my wife agrees 100%. \\; ( a big plus) \\; she says of all the mufflers I''ve had on the Monsters sound like what a Harley should sound like. \\; I''ll try to post some pictures but I haven''t had a lot of luck posting pics so bear with me.
Curt - Thanks for taking the time to record such a thorough demo. FYI my monsters just came in and I should have them on the Ultra next week. After hearing your bike I cant wait to give these babies a try. Ride safe, JS
