Well maybe I was looking at it wrong, lets all go spend all that money making our bikes run faster than stock, you know cams, 103 and up kits and all that shit, and when we are done we will have the fastet 70 mph bike's in town.

I will never be THAT frigin old.

Why do I need to put up with you endangering my physical wellbeing because you spent money on anything?

For the same reason I have to put up with the blue hairs driving or riding when they shouldnt, because thats the way it is, and no **** law is gonna change it.
Ill make you a deal, get all the incompetant drivers-riders off MY frigin road and I will slow down to an acceptable 90. (maybe)

And those blue hairs endanger you by driving too slow?  I’ll bet you are one of those types who think smoking your back tire as you pull out of a parking lot makes you the envy of all.

I have to pay for that tire, you just missed the point by about a mile. I have 8 grand on my rear tire, I didnt rack them up by punking out (self edit, I shouldnt be so ornery, we all love to ride). If you dont understand the blue hair referance you may be one. You get run over by one of them nice old ladies at 20 mph it is still gonna hurt, or one misses a stop sign and broadsides you. Dont get me wrong, Im no youngster, some older folks drive just fine, but they should be tested again at 80 or so to make sure they arent a danger to you or me. Get hit by a crotch rocket at over 100 or get ran over by a little old lady, your still run over.

Just as a point of comparison:

The DNR has had confiscation laws on the books for decades, and routinely confiscate guns, autos, and even homes, when conservation laws are broken.

No problem with the law. My family is on the same road. If you aren't going to come into Florida as a result. No problem. We don't want you hear anyway.

These laws have no effect on law abiding citizens. If a person wants to drink and drive, or ride at 130 MPH, or carry illegal weapons/drugs, they deserve to pay the consequences. Everyone knows the deal going in. And for those that are coming to Florida, with the intention of acting like a fool, stay the fuk out.......nobody wants you here, anyway.

Beyond absurd... Is there no limit to the idiocy of liberals?

How about we just drag the person out of their car or off their bike and shoot them in the head? That's just about where these idiots have gone with this law.

Kiss my A$$ Florida... You'll NEVER see me there and this law will cost you millions over a period of years as riders and the big Rally's leave the state based on the principle of the thing. Whatever big annual rally's occur there should pull out and move to a friendlier state.

As mentioned above the tempation to just run from the cops will be pretty much guarunteed cuz they can't catch you or even cannot pursue you in many jurisictions unless for a serious crime. If you've got this sort of penalty over your head you have nothing much left to lose so to hell with it - run.

JeepMaker,

"5 to 10 years in PRISON for speeding? Confiscation of vehicle? Give me a break, that type of penalty should be reserved for those that habitually break the law, or drunk drivers."

___________________________________________________________________________

Exactly my point - the punishment doesn't fit the crime folks.

Honest to God, the average homicide suspect serves this term of punishment. Gimme a break, if you morons saying this law is "appropriate justice" you're nothing short of mentally ill. If you want this type of Draconian punishment for a friggin' traffic violation with no mitigating circumstances (fatality, mulitple previous convictions, etc) then move to North Korea or China, etc.

Kiss my A$$ Florida...

You know I hate to say it, but when I was 18 and going 30mph over, I would not of stopped if they were going to take my bike or car. I dont see anything positive coming out of this besides death tolls.

cappy,

"If you cant stay under 120MPH then you deserve what you get."

Who says its any given speed guys? It says "30 mph over the speed limit" does it not? So that mean's 55 mph in a 25 zone, etc.

Complete BS...

I'd think that Florida's efforts would be better focused on illegals then tax paying citizens!

Read the whole thread, it was amended to be 50 mph over the speed limit and is a tiered system, no confiscation until the third offense. If everyone who hates this law so much really rides that fast then we don't need you to come to Florida. The number of people here who say they won't come to Florida won't make a dent in our economy. And if eventually it does reduce the number of bikes coming to Florida, then good maybe I won't have to sit in traffic in Daytona with a bunch of trailors. The big mouse is always going to bring plenty to our economy anyway.

I confess I didn't have time to read the nearly 100 posts here so yes I missed the info about it being amended.

My rant resulted ref the concept of a 30 mph ticket resulting in what amounts to a term identical to what you'd get if you blew someone's head off in a barfight (hell in a homicide you don't even lose your $20,000 motorcycle or vehicle).

The "amendment" creates a law that is far more reasonable for certain. I won't argue that one - 50 over, third offense, etc. I'll support that kind of thing.

I almost never go over 80 mph myself (i'm talking about in 70 zones), in fact half the time i'm probably a few miles under the speed limit, so I'm no advocate of guys riding like idiots by any means at whatsoever. I read the first page or so of posts but didn't make it to #61 apparently, lol. Obviously someone with some common sense stepped in and called BS on what was otherwise a grotesque and draconian punishment for a 30mph ticket.

Happy riding to everyone!

I think the 50 mph deal is why a lot of Florida folks don't appear to upset about this. The original proposal was for 50 over and then it got reduced to 30. I think that some folks saw that as being out of control. There was also a deal about plates having to be mounted horizontally which would have caused a lot of grief for the folk who have vertical mounted swing arm plates. Both of these are results of some sportbikers being out of control, not everyone of them I know some very responsible good riders with sportbikes, some of them speed and they have taken to folding the plates up under their tail sections where police can't read them.

I believe it is an infraction (?), along with a heavy fine, for riding with the license plate tucked up under the seat, renderig it unreadable. I have even seen these yahoos hang the plates on loops, so they swing up and are unreadable while riding.

Nomad X,

I didn't mean a political party, ie: Dem or Rep, but used the term "Liberal" in the sense of the Big Government/Nanny State weasel who thinks they should legislate every breath we take and tax us half to death. :) There are plenty of Republicans who are outright liberals (formerly known as Socialists and Communists not so long ago) as are of course many Dems...

Personally I despise them both (Dems and Rep) - I'm probably more of a Libertarian if I had to give myself a label...

Confiscation is a bad idea.
Anytime you allow any government agency to profit from the confiscation of private property without due process it gets out of control.
