Is it really necessary to turn off the thumbscrew gas valve on the left tank when the bike is parked? Seems like the float bowl floats would stop any extra gas from entering the carb (mine's a Mikuni). All my other bikes that had the petcock with on/off/res, I could just leave it on, no problem.

Anyone else have a panhead gas tank with the thumbscrew gas valve?

It's best to always shut off the gas to the carb You should see the mess you get inside the motor when the float sticks open Gas to the bottom end in the oil You get the drift

I've never had that happen, but I can appreciate your point - good enough for me. Since I've had this bike, I've always made it a practice turning it off, although I did forget to turn it on once, heh heh, ran fine for about a minute. Guess these ol' bikes just need a little more TLC, which I'm happy to give.
