Inquired about this kit on my wife's 883 Sportster. The dealer who installs them in my area does not recommendputting themon the 883, even though they make a kit for it, but only on the 1200.

It's a sad commentary, but I'm always suspicious of information I get from a salesman -- especially at a Harley dealer. He could be trying to sell you a new bike. I'd check with DFT (800-895-3711) for a definitive answer on an 883 conversion. Their web site says the kit fits only 1985-2003 Sportsters.

The info was not from a salesman but from the person who builds the trikes, and he is not a Harley dealer. He has put them on 883's in the past and the common complaint was lack of power.

My better half has a Fat Boy made into a DFT trike. It came with an 88 ci and it would drop back on any serious hill. She just couldn't keep up. I seriously doubt any 883 in the this world could pull a trike like you would want to ride it. What is an 88ci, somewhere close to 1500 cc? If 1500 isn't enough the where do you think an 883 will get you.

We had to have the 88 punched out to 95ci, ported & polished the heads, hi flow intake, Reinhart exhaust, 203 cams with gear drive. No she can out run my 96b FXSTC. Just stay out of her way.

Seriously, an 883 may pull it but not at road speed.

Im interested in doing a DFT conversion on my 1993 Electraglide. I'm only interested in purchasing the trike set-up. Just the set-up ( axle out to hubs , mechanical set-up. not the fiber glass body) I have my own body and such. I've built and painted my own creations. Anyways. Last price quote for the trike rear was 8600.00 Anyone know of a cheaper price than that? I always choose to ride what I put together. NOT what another builds for as a living.

I would try to contact DFT directly to see what you might have to pay without buying the fiberglass.

We had ours converted at Apex Sports in Colorado Springs, CO. Doyne Bruner is the owner and chief trike builder for the place. He is easy to take with and he might be able to point you in a good direction or he might be able to special order you a kit without the body. Its worth a try.

Give him a call. He loves to talk trikes with anyone.
