Default How to cut a windsheild

I have a heritage with a 19 inch windsheild and I'm looking to cut it down a couple of inches but I want it to still look right. How would I go about this. Would I use a jigsaw? How do I finish off the edge once it is cut?

for $25.00, Ihad a local glass shop trim 2 3/8", following the original radius and polish the edge. if you want to do it yourself -tapeboth sides, use saber saw with a fine tooth blade, and go slow. use sandpaper on the edge, starting with 100 grit, working your way to400 grit.

I never thought of bringing it to a glass shop. Thanks aviator.

Did mine myself. Traced the edge, moved it down the amount I wanted it shortened. I put masking tape on both side and used a sabre saw with a fine blade. Go slow and don't force the saw. Smoothed it down with sandpaper. You can use acetate to get the edge clean again. Wet a cloth with the acetate and in one mooth motion wipe the edge. Be careful not to drip it as it melts plastic.

I used to cut them for everyone around for quite a while.I used to take the measurment from the center of the shield and make a initial cut below the edge contour of the windshield. It limited the material thatwas left to be removed with the final cut, andlessend any chances of it cracking.Once you have the top few inches cut off,you can use that pieceas a guide to make the cut where you want it.
Idput masking tape over the edge, then duct tape the top of the windshield I had just cut off to the place I wanted to make the new cut.Measure up from a point on the fairing to keep your placment so you can move the piece to cover the other side when you get to the center of the windshield.I used to cut with a dremel tool and a lexan cut bit.I ran it at high speed and let the shank of the bit ride along the contour of the piece I had taped to the windshield.
Ive seen quite a few windshields crack due to binding of the blade on a sabre sawThe back and forth movment is the killer, with a Dremel that wont happpen.
After the cut is made, you can take some fine grit sandpaper to clean up the edge, and optical sandpaper will remove any clouding if you scratch it up any.
