can '07 road king calipers fit '89 flhtcu

has anyone ever tried to fit the new 4 piston calipers to an older FLH? It should just need a custom mounting bracket I would think. That and likely a new rotor. does that bolt right up?

I am hoping someone would have done this already.

Yes & no. If you replace your lowers they can. If you buy a new wheel & put 1" bearings in, you can use the new axle. Any more questions or clarifications, call. I can not help you in getting the parts, only info!

I put 07's on mine but it is a 96 RK. The adapter is from bikers choice and on Ebay it was about $48. bucks. They work great. I will tell you though that the 07's use dot 5 and the 89 I think you said it was an 1989 uses dot 4. You can use up to an 06 and still use dot 4. I used Brake cleaner- sprayed through the lines and I am using dot 4 through the system now. Been about 5 months now.

Fast Harley,

if the lowers are changed and a 1" axle is used would one not lose the mechanical speedo unit on the older models ? i have not tried this mod on my 90 so it just a question.

later.......................

Okay, i might be missing something here. Why would the lowers need changed? I understand that it might not bolt right up, but a custom bracket would take care of that. As long as the rotor spins inside the caliper that would be all that matters no? Hasanyone put a newer rotor onan olde bike? do themounting holes line up?

Paco, as long as I run the proper brake fluid, there should not be a problems should there? Unless the mastercylinder for the front brakes "needs" a different fluid than the brake itself. I will look into that.

Thats the one beemervet, thats thekit I put on mine. I can't do a photo till the weekend, because the bike is in the shop until Thursday. I added a new EFI unit by Terry Components and of course the first one was bad so hopefully it came in today or maybe tomorrow and it gets installed. Haven't had my bike in 2 weeks, I don't know how the boys and gals do it threw the winter.

Hey Phat, i know this has been a while, but I was wondering if you could put a picture of that caliper adapter (bikers choice 48-2679) on the site. I would like to take a look at it. Also, are you aware of any instructions I could look at on the internet. I have some 2000+ calipers I want to put on my 89 FLHTCU. Just want to take a peek at it before I buy a set.

broke c7 - I guess it all depends on how much work/trouble you want to go through. This past february I put all new (used) calipers, new floating rotors, new brake lines, race tech suspension parts and lowers forks (2003 units) on the front end of my 98RK and it all bolted up very easily. Even someone with my wrentching ability can accomplish it..:)
I just took my time and picked up the parts here and there and decided to do it while it was up for the winter. It is not as expecsive as you might think, but I know it is all HD parts and servicing is easy, and the brakes - work like a champ compared to the older versions we had.
