Well I tried posting this once before,  and after pages and pages of typing and pics,  the forum logged me out before it posted... so here goes again.

Here is what she looked like when I started

I bought it from a friend who did some work to it.. The paint was done by another friend. It looks nice, but, its getting a little tired.  Got a decent deal on the bike considering it was makin some pretty good power *90 horse according to the dyno at Las Vegas HD*  Some motor work done, s&s carb, and some other little things.

Its a great bike for short trips, but even with the detachable wind screen,  long trips can get a little weatherd, and I hated not having a radio other then my Ipod in my helmet.

So My dad came home from the dealership he does paintwork for with a bat wing and the inner fairing.  Had the great Idea to make a detachable bat wing.  well after all sorts of measuring and fiddling,  I realized there was not going to be a good way to make it quick detach, have a stereo, and still look good.

I really like the look of the street glide and figured, well what the heck.. lets just mount it like its supposed to be.

Well shortly after my brain storm,  I realize, this is going to be a pretty involved swap.  To date,  have changed out the gas tank,  working on the guages, sold the nacelle and got a decent start on the project.  I figured, well we cant match the paint thats on the bike, and the fairing will look dumb a different color.. So I figured will just do a complete paint.

Then, i get this bright idea

lets shave the tail lights and french the plate..  So I ordered up some Radiantz LED strips, led plate lamp, and started cutting and welding.  Keep in mind, I am no body man, and this is the first time I have tried this.  I definately learned alot about welding doing this.

Since my old man owns a bodyshop,  I enlisted the help of his shop forman to do the finish work.. I traded him some stereo install work.

Here is what she looked like when I started yesterday

I will upload the pics of yesterdays work, and continue on with the fun...

Part Dos.

Here is the batwing installed, I started on some of the wiring, I am still looking for a correct speedo and tach so I couldnt get all of it done.  I also did not think I would get this far so I didnt bring the stereo to install

Here is my dash.. painted black pearl the main color I am going with.  I decided to skip the Amp and air temp guages as they are pretty useless and installed my tweets there.

and a shot of the rear fender primed with the SG fender skirt.

you can see by the tape where my led lights are going to go.. you can also see the fun harness that I get to cut up and interface with the RK wiring..  I am basically making an overlay harness that plugs in to the factory unit so my main harness will not be hacked up.

I didnt think of taking pics of the front fender while I was there.  Its been lowered, shaved, and streched.  I also got my tour pack stripped down and ready for paint.   I also mounted my speakers.   most of the chrome thats not on the bike is going to be powder coated gloss black. Once I get my 00+ forks and brakes, I will be powdercoating the rest of the chrome gloss black.

I have an FLHX dash coming that will be painted and I am doing the Road glide style stripe on the upper, tank, and bags.  I was going to wire the LEDs up manually, but realized the Kuryakyn tail controller was well worth the 60 bucks in time savings.  I also mounted the Kury windshield mirrors with turn signals. and they are sooo nice.. a little spendy at 300 bucks, but they are very high quality and give me the ability to ditch the mirrors and ugly round turn signals.

More to follow as we get there.. hopefully, I will have everything ready for paint this week.

oh yeah.. and let me tell ya how fun it was to route the RK throttle and clutch cables. they are just a smidge too short, and they are a total PITA to get routed where they dont rub.  It was really helpfull to have a bike there to look at and see how they came from the factory.

its getting pretty close, and I hope to have the tail lamps done this week. I am making my own lenses that are going to be flushed in the bags.  if they come out like I am hoping, I may do a how to on that.. if not, I will save you all some time and headache.  I will also take pics of the stereo install as we get a little further. I am quickly runnin out of time as this has to be done in 4 weeks.  The worst part, I still dont have all the parts.    Atleast I still have my Honda to ride while we are in the best time of year, and during bike week to boot.

looks like my powdercoated parts should be back by thursday, so with any luck, I will be putting most of the back of the bike together this weekend.  Should have everything primed as well.  Found a speedo, and ordered a windscreen too.  I will snap a few more pics as I go and show the stereo mock up as well.

Great job you're doing there mr peepers!

I'll be watching this project with some interest.  I have has a '95 Ultra that I'm working on converting into a Street Glide.  I've got a Mustang solo seat from a 96 Road King on it, so right now I'm looking to fit a FLHX dash to it.  Looks like I'll need to fabricate a "U" shaped lower bracket on the dash to fit around my tanks' lower mount / seat tab.  Shouldn't be too difficult.
