Default Do you think Harleys should include some extras at purchase?

Does anyone else find this strange?

I've owned a lot of different motorcycles over the years and many different makes both European and Japanese. My Harleys by far have the best fit and finish, best paint, and the best dealership network. I also think they make the best bikes, but that is subjective. I'm sure there are a lot of Honda or Ducati owners who feel that way about their bikes as well.

What I don't understand about Harleys are the things that are missing.

No tool kit?? Come on, even my 73 Honda 350 came with a pretty good tool kit.

No internal bike storage?? I know we all have bags, but not all Harleys do and some folks don't want a fork bag. What's wrong with designing a little under seat storage for a tool kit, papers, and your manual??

No center stand?? I've added a Wheel Dock Center Stand to my bike, and its great. Many of my cheap imports in the past came with a good center stand "stock".

I know:
Harley offers a lot of great extras stock.
Harley offers a accessory catalog that looks like the NY phone book!

That being said, when you paythe big $$ for a Harley, compared to the prices ofsome other brands, those extras sure would be nice.

For those of you who have only owned Harleys these comments probably seem silly, but for those of us who have grown up on $2000 Hondas that give you an incredible amount of extras and really nice design touches right out of the box, they might make some sense.

What do you think?

I got a big smile on my face when I got mine. Does that count?

A friend of my son just bought an 07V-Star 650 Yamaha Custom. They threw in a helmet and a leather jacket for just under $5,800.00
He asked to use my trailer to pick up the bike tomorrow.

My sister is goin to the same dealer today to sign papers for a 08 V-Star 650 Yamaha Classic. They agreed on $5,600.00, but I don't know what other things are getting thrown in.

I guess what I'm saying is if you want a Yamaha with extras thrown in, then feel free to go buy one. You won't hurt anyone's feelings here.

?????????!! BOTH my Harley's came with owners manuals & tool kits! The used ones I've had didn't, but the ones I bought new did. 'Course just like every metric bike I've ever owned the "extra" tool kit was lacking in both quantity & quality, so I had to add a few things.

Center stands are over rated on heavy weight touring bikes, but a kick(jiffy)stand that doesn't collapse when the bike is pointed down hill *is* something extra. Just ask BMW & Triumph owners............

Nobody makes you sign on the line.....if you think you're getting screwed don't buy. I don't like center stands, my Yamaha Royal Star didn't come with a center stand, tool kit, or even bag liners. My 08 Ultra came with a tool kit that I haven't even opened yet....I put together the tools I want to carry and don't depend on them to give me a kit. I got 20% off about 3k worth of accessories when I bought the bike, just the discount would have bought a fairly reasonable jacket and helmet.

What extras do you get when you buy a new Ford or Chevy?? Guess I just don't get it....I got what I wanted with my purchase at a price I agreed to. What else is necessary??

Hey relax! I was just making an observation. I know that Harley owners are loyal, but blind loyalty is dangerous in any situation. There's nothing wrong with expecting more, even from Harleys. If that wasn't the case, they'd still be making engines that leaked oil all over the place and vibrated parts off as they ran.

You made the comment about Fords and Chevys? Well, if other car manufacturers offered al lot of extras at half the price then you'd demand it of Ford and Chevy too.

And center stands work just fine on a big bike. Don't believe it, ask someone with a Wheel Dock!!

I think the bikes should come standard with the rear turn signal conversion to brake light kit.

Battery tender pigtail is intalled by some dealers. That should be standard too.

We got two t-shirts and a plaque, not to mentionpermanent grins from ear to ear.

Still a good deal.
