Default 103 build falls short of expectations

I just finished installing the 3 7/8 jugs and pistons on my 07 road king. I left the heads alone. I used the 255 cams. I have a screamin eagle air box and air filter, and Vance and Hines slip-ons. I put a Power Commander on it and had it Dyno tuned. It made 84.1 hp, and 101 ft. lb of torque. It seems like I should have made more hp, but the torque number sounds good. Does anybody have any suggestions?

I would say the they do sound a little low. I did the same set up but the cam was a 258 and we saw 100 hp and 106 ft tq. I think you should see more hp power but, how was the whole hp and tq curve can you post it. Just because your numbers are little low does not mean its bad. where does the horse power start peak power just means my diing ding is bigger then yours. if you understand what I am trying to say. please post it.

First off you have a restrictive head for the 96' engine and now you made it 103' and expect it to get power. The performance is in the heads, if the motor can't breathe it can't become the air pump you want it to be. I'd say your leaving 12 ponies on the table by using the stock heads. The 255 cam is an EPA performance cam which means it performs well at 2000~3500 rpms then it falls flat on its face so the HP will be cut short again.
It's all in the package... the parts used should complement each other, working together to give you the results your looking for whether it be low end grunt or those higher HP numbers every one chases.

It runs great and that torque in at the lower rpms, so you really fel it right away. I'm not unsatisfied with the results, especialy for the money, but I just was wondering if there was a little more that I could squeeze out of it without putting alot more cash in it.

Stock hp on a 96" motor is about 62--so you got a 30% increase in hp with an increaseof 7 c.i. and a torque, not hp, cam. And your tq went from about 72 stock to 101--about a 40% increase.

How much time did the tuner spend on the bike, and how much more money are you willing to spend taking it to other tuners looking for what--a different chart??

It's your bike and your money--"squeeze" away if you like.

You might check the website of Latus Harley-Davidson--they have quite a collection of dyno charts for 103 builds you can use to compare your build to. Last point, not all dynos are created equally--there are variation from dyno to dyno--consider that when you look at other numbers and graphs.

Enjoy your ride.

i think you would do well to lose the 255 and try a different cam. the 258 should work well. change the heads only if you go to a bigger throttle body.
