Default 2003 Screamin' Eagle Road King

Hi,

I have a chance tp pick up a 2003 SE Road King for a decent price. Having the opportunity I have looked around and I'm seeing a lot of the 2003 SE Road Kings for sale. I think there are three on Ebay right now and there are three locally at dealers in my area. Comparatively I find very few SE Road Kings of other years.

Is there something that everyone knows and I don't about this particular SE model?

Thanks for any information,

Paul

Can't answer your question, but you might want to head over to www.cvoharley.com and ask. It is a much more active board for CVO's.

Good luck

I just bought an 03 SERK to go with our 05 SE Ultra. My bike had 6100 miles on it when I bought it. I shopped and Talked to a lot of people that had and still do own CVO Bikes. I am not aware of any problems with these bikes. The main reason you are starting to see the 03's for sale is they are 5 years old, Plus they were the anniversary models. Lots of people bought them and along with the CVO they thought because they were anniversary models they were going to be worth a ton of money in a few years. The CVO bikes hold value but just because they are anniversary models they are not reaping a big return on the bikes as an investment. Plus there were over 3,000 CVO Road Kings made in 03, so you are seeing a lot of folks that bought new in 03 ready to up grade. I am very pleased with our SERK, bike runs like a top, is quick and very fun to ride. I don't think you will be disappointed with the 03 CVO Line. We Love ours.

Thanks a lot for the info. I thought that the age of the bike might have had something to do with it. I know two dealers in my area each have one, which makes it nice. Not only does it give me a price option, but one of them is set up a little differently, Rhiehart pipes, etc.

It seems like a sweet model. I have ridden a Road King Police model, and my Deuce, both with the 88TC. I imagine the 103" is fun to ride.

Thanks again,

Paul

I've got one that I bought new and now have about 45,000 on it. They lost a lot of value, I believe, because they just made too many of them. I really like mine and will keep it, probably forever, just because it's lost so much value, but I've considered buying another low mileage one just because it's a great value for what you get. A low (2500 to 5-6000 miles) one is only in the $16-18,000 range on Ebay and that's a lot of bike for the money. I've even considered buying one and having it painted or the tins replaced to have a different looking bike at a low cost.

Hi,

Thanks for your input. I actually went last week and looked at three of them. The one I was originally interested in was no longer at my closest dealer. It was by far the best of the three I saw, it had been cared for and the chrome was solid, no rust on the fasteners, etc. It had 24K+ miles on it. They were asking $16,900, but my salesman indicated that figure could be heavily discounted. Someone got a good one there.

The other two were basically in the same shape, pitted chrome on the tach housings, transmission covers and so on. I couldn't find one that had all the stock accessories, either they had the passenger seat rest and no windshield or the wrong windhsield or vice-versa. They both also had over 24K miles.

There were some privately owned ones on Cycletrader.com fairly close that may have been in better shape, but they had high mileage too. All of them I looked at either online or at dealers were $16,9--.

In looking at them I came across the same number of '03 SE Deuces as well. The Deuces though were all in outstading shape and had less mileage. As a prior Deuce owner I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that is because the RK's are more comfortable to ride distances on.

Iended up buying a gently used '07 Street Glide. I couldn't be happier.
