Default Hello to all... and a question to start off with

Ladies 'n Gents...
I'm new to this forum...not new to riding butnew to riding Harley's.
in brief I've been riding since the mid 70's and ridingGoldwings (89 & 92 GL 1500's) for the past 16 years..the last one was an02.
I decided to gofor my first H-D -a Heritage Softail Classic/105th AEback in Oct 07...tho' it is April 08 andI have yetto take the scoot out for a ride...you will note that I'm a patient person, or just plainloco!
The above "login" actually alludes to the serial number of the bike #0823/5000...a trivial issue.
Some standard additionsare... a luggage rack, rear guards, front guard and such...
and the minor detail of passenger footboards... for the better halfof course. Thesearepending installment.

And now myquestion:I note that the windscreen on this version is shorter by about 2" or so as compared to the standard ie non-annieFLSTC...is this the "standard" or do I have a one of a kind?
I don't have much to compare with as the bike I have is the ONLY 105th AE FLSTC currentlyin Turkey (for the time being at least??)
I'm at 6' so I'm certain I'd prefer the taller screen...we have enough flying around here as it is so I'd like the additional 2" to be there...that's on the windscreen if you know what I mean andif you're referring to anything elseOK, WHO WOULDN'T?? (I kindly ask the moderator to excuse myuse of CAPS on this first post...I'mhonestly notshouting at anyone out there!)
As soon as I have some pictures I shall post...but I'd honestly like to know if the windscreen I have is H-D's idea of asking me somewhat discreetlyto go get myself a taller windscreen ...?

best regards & safe riding to all...

The windscreen will do its job, and you should be set-up to view OVER the screen, not through it.

Ideally (according to many articles I've read and forum folks), you want the windscreen to come level with your chin (or teeth, or nose) while you are in a normal, comfortable sitting position. You should have a clear and unobstructed view al all times.

There will be some folks who will swear to looking through their screens is just fine.

Take your time and get use to what was sold to you. Pop the shield off and run a day or two whithout any screen, then put it back on and judge from there whether or not it is doing a good job for you.

Up on the banner-portion of any forum page you land on is a blue search button. Type-in Windshield height, windscreen, etc. and find LOTS of previous discussions about this topic.

Poorboy,
thanks much for the reply...appreciated.
fully well agreed that I have to see just over top the screen ...and that's the way I prefer it, too.
but hadn't seen this shorter version on the FLSTC's before...might have missed it too. however, on the H-D website the samebike shown has a taller screen on as well. hence my question.
Could thispossibly be the way they send them out for the Euro market?
Anyways it's not a real issue and yes as you rightly indicate a few road miles will show if I really need to change or not....I'm eager to take her out asap.
havea safeweekend...
regards,
Ali Haydar

Ali,
Congratulations on your new bike, and welcome to HD forums! As others have already mentioned, ride it for awhile then decide if you need to replace the windshield.

I have an '07 Ultra Classic, and find that after an hour or so of riding the very top of the windshield is right on my eye-line. If I straighten up in the seat, I can see over it just fine. I'm considering going to a shorter windshield.

Anyway, I'm sure you'll do what's right for you. Enjoy!

Check out this HD Part # It might be just what you want:

Replacement Windshield Lexan®

Tailor your existing windshield for your riding preference. Replace the original Lexan® windshield with a widescreen 2" taller than the standard-height windshield to improve wind protection for taller riders. Uses your existing mounting brackets and hardware for an easy, economical conversion.

I bought my Heritage last July. I am 5'11 and had difficulty with the stock windshield. I know everyone says you should be able to look over the windshield. The top edge of the stock windshield was right at eye level for me. I either had to strectch up to look over the shield or bend down to look thru the shield because with it being eye level with the curve everything was distorted. I opted for the larger shield and now have no problem.
