Sloptail '07/'08 Build
 

Finally getting the time to do some of the work. OT has been adding nicely to the bank account to buy the parts, but has also eliminated any time to actually do the work. Got the next week with no OT, so a few things will happen.
Bike was stripped, frame cleaned off, sanded where necessary, primed, painted.
Stuff happening: New blind triple trees, bearings; Black fork gaiters; Motion Pro turn signal bar; 6 inch risers; Repaint front wheel; Flush mount front axle; Brakes - front & rear operated from front master cylinder through adjustable proportioning valve, clean & paint calipers, new brake lines, new polished SS rear rotor; repaint rear wheel; Chromed rear axle & hardware; Speedometer drive moved to rear wheel; New cut-down rear fender; Nightster side mount license plate mount; Bullet rear lights with Badlands module for use as running/brake/turn; Custom solo seat pan with handmade leather cover (no padding); Handmade leather cover for below seat/over battery; Smaller battery to allow seat to mount lower; Completely rewire w/WW2 US Navy aircraft signal light switch box; New HD Evo crate motor; Keihin CV carb w/SE manifold; Modify outer primary to expose primary belt drive more; Maybe new exhaust pipes; Repaint tanks.

April 5 - Pulled front end off, stripped front end, installed hidden fork tube caps onto tubes, installed riser bushings in new trees, removed lower brake line. Will need new lower tree bearing & dust shield. Cleaned, inspected, & repacked front wheel bearings. Removed remnants of rear brake line. Started stripping old wiring.

April 6 - Got the new bearing and dust shield for the lower tree packed and installed. Put the trees on the bike and cinched everything down, with Loctite on the lower tree pinch bolts, the threads where the tubes screw into the top tree, the "nut" that threads through the bottom tree onto the neck post, and the set screw that locks it into position. Torqued that "nut" to 45 ft-lbs for now. Will have to see how it feels back on the road.

The portion of the tubes between the trees have gotten scuffed up over the 21 years they were hidden behind the stainless fork tins. Since I ain't gonna waste the money replacing a li'l bit of scuffed chrome, I guess the tool pouch will have to cover 'em up! :D
