I use Amsoil 20W-50 in everything. I use Amsoil because they do not introduce friction modifiers so it should improve clutch operation. ( no clunking into gear here either as i use it in the transmission as well) It seems alot of riders like the Mobil1 products. Either/or should work fine
I was told not to use synthetic oils on my bike, since the older gaskets may have a problem with it or something? Any truth to that? I'd like to go 100% synthetic, but am afraid to try it.
Automatic Transmission Fluid or hydraulic oil (like goes in a farm tractor)
You are right the thinner the better for the primary. I see some recommending Synthetic and other placing very heavy oil in the primary. Big mistake. The primary oil is mostly for the chain and to push thick oil out of a clutch when engaged in my mind is self explanatory. 20w oil is the heaviest you should use in the primary. 10w is better.
If you use your clutch hard at times never put synthetic in as you will burn it out fast.
The older paper gaskets may have a problem but the newer metal gaskets do not seem to have any problems. rubber seals will be fine.
Cool, thanks. Well, not cool, because I can't do the synthetic with the "stock" (or what I assume to be stock) gaskets. Oh well... Some day.
OMG, here we go again. Synthetic oil does not CAUSE leaks. It is safe with ANY gaskets. However, if you have a gasket that is weeping now, it will become a leak. Needed a new gasket anyway.
