It's an  Aluma MCT Wayne. Extremly well built. No reason it should not last for the rest of my life and then some. Just put  Swivel Safe II swivel hitch on it.

Does the Aluma trailer need the swivel hitch?  I'm thinking about buying an Aluma trailer.  What do you like and dislike about the trailer?

Thanks

Needing a swivel hitch is a matter of personal likes dislikes etc. I just installed a Swivel Safe II on my Aluma.  In my opinion all trailers intended to be pulled by a motorcycle should have one. There are others that will tell you the exact opposite though.

What don't I like about the Aluma? I wish it had more lights on the rear. It is deep, but not something that I will be taking stuff out of allot either. I do like the fact that it's no wider than the bike is. I picked this trailer because of how well built it is. Thing should last for a very long time.

I don't have any pics with the bike hooked up, but I should be able to take some in a day or two.  I'm in the process of installing the hitch and lights and so forth.  But here are some pics of my bunkhouse.

Philt,

Thats slicker then all get out.  You can camp 3 nites for the cost of nite ina hotel.  And if I remember, many campgrounds have excellent shower facilities too. When my son was playing hocley we would camp in Toronto for 15$ a nite with a water and electrical receptacle site even though alls we had was a big tent.  Those 2 ameneties make a huge difference.

You got that right badinfluence.  We are going to be doing more touring since I'm retired and the wife is a school teacher.  So I figure I'll save some money by not doing hotels!  Might offset the cost of gas now!
Here is the whole rig.

Ultraman and IRME,

Nice looking set ups.  Do youse guys have the special rotating hitch? While the trailer impacts the ride to what degree do you feel you have to alter your driving with the trailer  attached? Drastically different?  A little different? Or it depends on the type of traffic?

Having a sidecar bike I will take a cue from others who suggest having wifey as passenger on the bike and put "stuff" in the sidecar. Not only is the sidecar passenger area roomy everything behind the seat is there to be used also.  Big old tourpack and 2 saddle bags.  Haven't packed for an overniter yet on the sidecar bike but I sense I will be designated one small saddle bag and Mrs BI63 will get the rest.  I only need one change of clothes as I'll wash the other stuff right away even if by hand in a washroom.

I built this trailer and finished it the night before leaving for Laconia 2006. I pulled it in heavy rain for 750 miles all the way to New Hampshire. It pulled great and I had no problems with the wet roads during my 18 hour ride through hell.

I set an X-90 rolling frame on my welding table and built the trailer to fit the bike. The axle, wheels, and fenders were purchased from "American Legend Trailers". I liked the look of their fenders because they match the Ultra and use all of the same Harley fender trim and lights.

The frame is made of 2 inch aluminum square tubing with a 1/8" aluminum deck. The top deck was then skinned with custom stainless steel sheeting. The tail light housings were grafted into the frame for the LED lights.

The railing and tire chock were bent out of stainless steel tubing. The hardest part was making the fender mounts.

The front stone guard is a piece of 1/8" aluminum that I bent to fit the trailer. I had the stone guard and fenders painted to match the Ultra.

In the last 2 summers we have pulled the trailer over 8,000 miles without a problem.

Now that is just sharp!!  If I only had talent to build something as nice as that trailer.  Good work.  I am not an artist at all.  I can't even draw flies.

Sorry I took so long in answering.  I've been away for a while.  I found mine locally used, but that is kind of unusual to do.  Most people buy them and keep them forever.  They are built outside of Chicago. They are called Bunkhouse campers.  Here is the website.  http://www.bf-specialties.com/

badinfluence63,

I agree, the camper is more cost effective but my camping days are now spent in a rental cabin or cottage.

I have actually thought about building a trailer to pull behind my 04 RKP. My job requires the use of a 6' ladder and sometimes a 8' ladder, plus my equipment and tools (I am an air balance technician. I have to use that big red thing in my avatar.) Thought about building a trailer to carry all this, so I can use the bike to go back and forth to work instead of my truck. Just not sure how the bike would react to a trailer...

I'd say it depends on how much that stuff weighs.  My trailer weighs in at about 350 lbs. and with a little bit of stuff in it. (stuff you would normally strap to your bike) and a camp chair and a couple of other things, you hardly realize that it's back there.  I have a RKC.  I have a friend who has a Yamaha Vstar 1100 and when he is on a trip he pulls a trailer with all their stuff and his wife rides with them.  So your RKP should be fine.

Here's our '07 Ultra with 21,500 miles on it in 19 months so far, plus our new '08 Bushtec Turbo+2 in matching deep cobalt pearl.  The trailer looks like it was painted in Milwaukee on the same day as the bike and just like everybody says, it pulls like a dream and is extremely well behaved.  We've put about 2,000 miles on the trailer in 3 months with zero problems or hassles so far.

No kit. it was all put together by a friend of mine, he had everything made to fit. the upper part is the bunk, there is enogh room inside for gear, a small picnic table, camping utensils, lawn chairs on the side over the fenders. I am looking at making one for myself this winter and then possibly making a few for sale if all goes as planned. This trailer you see has been to both coasts of Canada 2 times and been together for about 5 years now, the only thing that has been replaced is a few of the snaps on the side, and one set of brakes.
