I saw that last night, but wasn't sure it passed or not.
The legislators in Florida never seem to disappoint me in their common sense approach to firearms.
Almost every other state should take a lesson from them. IMHO.

I am actually kind of torn on this one.....

The constitution was only supposed to be a restraint on government, Not private individuals or buisness. Consider if it was a bill to force you not to ban guns in your house. Or better yet a bill to force you to allow people to smoke in your house. This comes dangerously close to infringing on property rights.

Then I think about all the bad shit government put us through (like waiting 8 weeks for suppressor approval) and I say " **** it, might as well get something good back"

I love living in Florida.

The compromise was that folks already had to have a conceal-carry permit to be in compliance with this new law.

It is already legal for non-permit holders to have firearms inside their car as long as it is "encased" (meaning glove-box, center console, etc).  This will conflict with them coming to work that way if they don't have a permit.

We've got a excellent gun-friendly Lawyer here in Florida who has written a wonderful book regarding concealed-carry and the Florida laws.  He's in his 6th printing of the book as he keeps things updated as the laws change. (his name is Jon H. Gutmacher); his book is awesome:

Florida Firearms - Law, Use & Ownership

His book already points out several areas of legal confusion within Florida Law, this new law will add some potential headaces.  But hey, we're much better off than most states.

They dont call it "the gunshine state" for nothing.

Alaska and Vermont still have you beat on gun laws though.....

Not to flame, Sir. I suspect we're close in our views on gun rights.
I can understand that point, sprayandpray, not forcing the Govt.'s will on business owners.
But it's not forcing business owners to allow guns in the workplace, just in the parking lot.
And only by folks already allowed to CCW, anyways. And we both know what a law-abiding bunch we are.
Will ANY company take responsibilty for my personal safety, while I'm on their property?
But this is more like "not allowing people to not have guns or smoke" in my driveway, not my house.
And I also find infringing on property rights important, almost as impotant as infringing on Individual Rights.
JMO.

Yes they do.  God bless them.

And, from a slight distance here, I think hk_shooter and sprayandpray have many more views in common with each other than differences.

And from my understand, it has to stay locked in your vehicle.  Which means that most bike riders would not be able to take it to work since they don't have a locking compartment on the bike and you would not be able to show off a new gun to your buddy in the parking lot.

The bike thing is true. Sad, but true.
Heck I'd be hard pressed to even trust the locks on touring/saddle bags.
But if you wanted to show your friend your new toy, couldn't you just both hop in the vehicle, lock the doors crank up the air conditioning and them show them the new PDA(Personal Defense Assistant)?

Like I said HK .... torn. I see both sides of the arguement. Is it a good peice of legislation Definatly. Is it a RIGHT peice of legislation, I can't make up my mind. That's all I am saying. I have seen too many good ideas taken to far ( the road to hell is paved with good intentions). I have drawn a line in my sandbox that I will not cross , Even if it benifits me. I can not decide it this is one of those cases.

And sensable discussion is never flaming          (until you start name calling) . Seems the ability to agree to disagree with someone, is becomeing a lost art.

PDA , the original point and click device.   And that sounds like it would be legal.

As much of a gun rights advocate as I am, I think this law sucks.  The Florida Legislature does not have the right to tell private business what rules they can impose at their private work place.  My rights stop where someone else's begins, and if I don't like the rules, I can always go somewhere else, but I don't get to dictate what standards my employer can impose.

If you want to take your gun to work, then park off of the property and walk in.

NO psych..... Bill just sees the evil in letting government tell us what we can and can not do on property we own and pay for.....

This is a knife that cuts both ways. You say what great law this is because it helps YOU, yet when they pass the next law to force you to walk around your house wearing a helmet cause someone could get hurt bumping their head (Rediculous example but you get the point, ) , Everyone here will be in an uproar.

Actually kinda scary, that a group so dedicated to enjoying freedom, are so exstatic about taking someone elses freedom to chose what they want on thier property, away

(smoking bans in bars are a pretty good example though, Even better is Ohio's and Ireland's smoking bans which bans smoking in a truck you are driving as it is a " workplace" even if you are the only one in it)
