Whats with the attitude?
Let me start off by saying that I do not own or operate a Harley. I ride sport bikes but I do not disparage anyone else due to their choice in rides.
I’ll get to the point. What is with the attitude? The other day I’m out for a leisurely jaunt, when I see another rider (Harley) approaching on the other side of a divided (by a concrete barrier) highway. I wave (like I always do when I see another bike) and this guy flips me the bird in return . I was a bit angry! I wanted to turn around to find out what I’d done to deserve such disrespect but there was no way to do it on the highway.
I’ve noticed that many riders on Harleys do not wave when I pass (not all….not even a majority). I figure they are busy riding and I take no offense. But what about when I’m stopped taking a break at the gas station? More times than not, the Harley riders will not talk to me and look at me with what appears to be disdain (perhaps because I believe in ATGATT). Yet plenty of people on cruisers/tourers of other makes seem to look for the opportunity to meet another rider and talk bike.
Now I’ll admit that there are some on sport bikes that act like complete tools. This can usually be attributed to age not bike choice. Unfortunately, kids seem to choose sport bikes as their first ride and proceed to make a complete fool of the entire biking community. I will not defend some idiot doing a wheelie going 75 mph down the highway.
But I see plenty of what I consider to be foolish behavior in your community. No helmets…..heck little or no protective gear at all. Bikes parked at bars in every little town across America every Sunday looking for that elusive winning hand. Loud pipes save lives? Now, I see my insurance going up because over 40 riders have the fastest growing fatality rate.
My point (now that I’ve sufficiently muddied the waters) is that we all have our shortcomings. We should as a motorcycle community attempt to come together. So next time you see that dork wearing the full leathers at the gas station, say hi or just give him a wave when passing.

RE: Whats with the attitude?
I cant speak for everyone .
Some people are screwed up no matter what they ride .
And as A community , I have no idea what you think you will accomplish here.
Do I smell something ?
I think so !
