Default Couple of questions about my new Springer Softail

Couple of questions:

In the owners manual, it says to basically change the oil (after the 500 miler) every 5000 miles. That seems like a lot of miles. Does anybody do it more often? Does everyone reload with CVO Synth 3? How often do you have to add oil?

It also states to put 91 octane gas in 'er. In Arkansas we got 93 (pretty cool). Will higher octane gas hurt it? My guess is no.

Finally, when I check my oil, it's very foamy (got a head on it). Is this normal?

Thanks,

Happ

I have my oil changed at 2500 mile intervils, but just the engine oil at the 2500, and all oils every 5000 miles, I use the cvo syn 3. I have never had to add oil to mine, I would suggest that if you are haveing to add oil that you start looking for a leak, as far as the oil being foamy, I have never notice that with mine. I would not think that from 91 to 93 octane would have any affect on anything, besides I know one person that is running only sunco racing fuel in his FXDSE and it is about 110 octane

Check it right after you get off. ET will foam home.

Maybe it's about the first batch.

i change iol every 3000 miles, never had a foaming issue, other than the rabies i just got rid of...lol...really i would think if there is foam in the oil there must be air getting in causing it to do so...whicjh could mean you have a leak...i would look around for that. in my old screaming eagle the rear head gasket sprung a leak, i would look there

I change all the fluids every 5,000 miles and run syn 3 in my 07 SEUC. I run 91 unless 93 is available. Last point foamy oil is BAD. Make sure you are not overfilling, or have contaminants in the oil. Water usually makes it milky, air will make it foamy as could othercontaminants. I would change it now and monitor the foam issue.

Hope this helps

Here is what I did with mine.
100 miles, replace engine oil to Amsoil.
500 miles, change all three oils to Amsoil (I use gear lube in the tranny), 20-50 in the other two.
I change engine oil at 3000, the other two 5000.
Mine is foamy also if you check it directly after shutting it down, this is normal as the oil is being pumped back to the tank, any time oil goes through a pressure drop it will foam, this is why the gas packed shock was invented to help resist foaming.
Oil is cheep compared to engine rebuilds.
