Bike, 05 Heritage EFI, seems to cut out/cough upon starting. Usually it will high idle for a few seconds, then to operating idle speed. Tonight, it really didn't high idle upon start up. It kinda just chugged a lil at a lower RPM. When the throttle was cracked a few times, it spit, coughed and cut out, like a cold Ford or a carbed bike on full choke when it's warm. The tank was just repainted, and of course the guts replaced. The filter wasn't because the milage isn't that high really, but I'm sure that one will come back to bite me in the a$$!  Any ideas? Thanks, K

Sounds to me like the IAC motor isn't opperating correctly, you can unplug it and tighten up the connections a bit and try it again, this works 10% of the time other wise the dealer needs to hook it up the the DT to see the IAC step setting

Thanks Doc. I'm not sure what that is. Where is it located?

Not sure if I mentioned it before but it has a PC III, Stage I.  Thanks again. I'll do some research. K

The IAC motor is on top of your throttle body, it allows air to pass (measured in steps) the closed throttle plate so the bike will start and idle but if it isn't doing it's job correctly the bike won't act correctly.

Now that you say you have a PC III on your bike sheds a different light on the problem....it's necessary to have all the information you can give when asking for someone to trouble shoot your systems.  There was a problem with the FIRMWARE of the PC III that allowed the engine to hesitate off throttle and hard starting.  You can go to your help menu in the tool bar of the program and see what firmware you have and then look on the Dyno Jet web site for the latest update....if your firmware doesn't match the latest version on the web simply follow the instructions on how to update your PCIII.

A quik test for you to do is unplug the PCIII and see how the bike acts....if it starts and idles fine then the PCIII is the problem....if it acts the same I'd say the IAC motor needs looking at.
Good Luck

Well, it seems it doesn't do that with the PC III unhooked. I thought it did at first, but it just may be my mind. So I'll look into that firmware update and see what that brings about.  Seemingly the milage seems to be progressively getting poorer. Last I checked it was in the 32-34 range, which in my opinion is pretty sad. Still seems to run pretty decent down the road and all. Anyway, I'll look into that and report back. Thanks again Doc, K

Doc, do I need to have the PC hooked up to the computer to do all this? It seems the "update firmware" action is not highlighted when I just click on it without being hooked up.  Thanks, K
