I've been collecting and shooting M1 carbines for 20 years or so. I have a few other guns in my collection, including M1 Garands and some Colt pocket pistols, but carbines are my favorite.
on my m1 my slide doesnt work you can pull it back but half way and the whole piece doesnt go with it just the part you wrap your finger around (apologize for my ignorance with parts names) if you would like some pics i will try and put some good ones on here
thanks bud

Faulkner, with your safety in mind, I recommend you choose several collector grade examples and send them to me so that I can check them out and be sure they are safe. I won't even charge for this service. Good deal, uh?
I've always loved the M1 carbine. I've never owned one, however. If I were to find an origional one better than field grade I'd probably snatch it up.
Trailey - that "thing" is called an operating rod. When pulled rearward, the bolt should rotate and move to the rear while traveling with the rod. If you like, send it to me and I'll be happy to take a look. I'll get it back to you in five/six years...maybe.

I am truly jealous.
I only have one.
It's like most of yours but it has the addition of one little lever.
Oh, it's an Inland M2.
And it's chrome plated!
