Default real head turner

I've been out for a few rides so far. Lately, I've really been turning heads when I'm at a low RPM or idle. The front caliper starts clanging like a dinner bell, unless I've got some pressure on the front brake. I took off the chrome cover hoping to keep it quiet, but the noise is coming from the actual caliper. Anyone else had this problem? What's the solution. Kinda new to the shovels.

Thanks
kucks

1980 FXWG Yes, and I do not have a proven solution for you.

I tried putting new bushings in the forks, but that did not work.

I saw a rubber pad for sportster calipers in JP catalog. When I put

them on I will let you know if it works.

Just use the same stuff thatis used on car discs. It is some sort of blue goo, comes in little one axle tubes [like fast food catsup etc] it works. You clean everything and smear it on the back of the pads.

Its a 1980 with a single disc. Not running I can move the caliper's lower end and duplicate the noise. Is there a bushing or something missing possibly?

My buddies 80 with dual discs up front made a lot of racket until we replaced the the pads and pins.
I see V twin sells a rebuild kit with all the hardware, thats where I would start.
If I remember when we took his brakes apart the pins were wore almost all of the way through and the pads were ruined.
