A gun in the house?

The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no

possible victory in defense.

The sword is more important than the shield,

and skill is more important than either.  The

final weapon is the brain.  Everything else is

merely supplemental.

As John Steinbeck once said:

1. Don't pick a fight with an old man.  If

he's too old to fight, he will just kill you.

2. If you find yourself in a fair fight, your

tactics suck.

3. I carry a gun cause a cop is too heavy.

4. When seconds count, the cops are just

minutes away.

5. The reporter did a human-interest piece

on the  Texas  Rangers.  The guy identified
the Colt Model 1911 the man was carrying

and asked him 'Why do you carry a 45?'

The Ranger responded,  'Because they don't

make a 46.'

6. An armed man will kill an unarmed man

with monotonous regularity.

7. The old sheriff was attending an awards

dinner when a lady commented about him

wearing his sidearm.  'Sheriff, I see you

have your pistol.  Are you expecting some

One on hubby and I at all times, except for work. Though, we both work in locked facilities, so I don't think we have much to worry about. And, I work with cops, so I am pretty safe while at work.

My collection isn't much any more.  For some reason, I sell them almost as fast as I buy them.  I have a Kimber .45 for concealed carry.  Two .12 gauge shotguns in the house for home defense, and an unfired Colt Python .357 Magnum that I got from my Mom when Dad passed away.  It'll stay unfired.

Do you have the original box and paperwork for the Colt? I know you wouldn't sell it because it was your Dad's, but having the box and paperwork makes it a lot more valuable. Those old Colts are a good investment. I have an Anaconda, .44 magnum i bought in the early 90s, it is worth almost three times what I paid for it. To me there is no better action on a revolver than the old Colts, very smooth and precise.

I've got the paperwork, but can't find the box.     I'm hoping Mom has it somewhere in the house and it'll turn up.  It's a 4" blue model.  It's in mint condition because he loaded it, then put it in his sock drawer.  And there it stayed.  All nice and comfy.  Not a mark on it.  He bought it new in 1984.

Most rifle rounds defeat body armor...... As do head and thigh shots. Tough to walk with a shattered femur....

Just saying

Not to mention a severed femoral artery.  What is it, about 3 minutes to bleedout?

sorry...but I feel that a good defense goes hand in hand with offense.
(If someone starts shooting at you in your house.....you may want to be BEHIND something?  If you hear someone in your house at 2AM......you may want to have a PLAN....not just go into the kitchen an FLIP on the light?   These are called DEFENSIVE plans.)

I think what it's saying is too win you need to go on the offensive at some point. Defense will help you survive until you have the opportunity to go on offense (attack ) and destroy your opponent.

Definitely have guns in the house. We live in a very quiet city neighborhood. Everyone knows everyone, we all get along ... nice place to live. No crime to speak of. Until a few weeks ago. One of the houses a couple of blocks up got broken into at night. No one hurt, just a few things stolen.

My GF was pretty scared after that happened. Didn't know what to think and was worried we were next.

So that night I opened the gun safe and got Sam out of hiding. A 30 year old S&W 916T riot gun. My old Police shotgun.

I had her stand near the bottom of the stairwell in the dark while I remained upstairs out of sight. I racked the slide & in my best 'ghost' voice said "Get out" ...

Took a few minutes to clean the puddle on the floor where she'd been standing ... but she doesn't worry about break-ins any longer.
