Default Insurance issues on riding someone else's bike, or them riding yours

I did not get a straight answer from my insurance agent (Progressive/Harley). Any issues concerns if someone riding your bike has an accident or you have one riding his? What about a loaner from the dealer?

Much of this is going to depend on how your state insures vehicles. When I was in Wisconsin, insurance is on the driver, thus anything that I drove was covered by my insurance policy. If I wrecked someone else's ride then my insurance would pay and have the point applied to it.

Now that I am in Minnesota (damn I should go somewhere warmer) insurance is on the vehicle with a designated primary driver. Thus if my buddy wrecks my bike, the vehicle insurance pays, thus it is my insurance, and the claim would stay on my insurance's record.

I have no clue what the NY rules are. Hope this helps a bit.

With mine, I am insured riding another bike and my bike is insured with someone else riding it.

Read your policy...as mentioned it varies state to state. You may be able to have a policy written for any driver. Here in AZ insurance stays with the car with any permissive driver. I don't let anyone ride my bike so I don't know. Maybe if the policy states only you, you could get a cheaper rate. You should definitely talk to your agent because policies can be confusing sometimes. Also, just because your agent says that something is covered...it doesn't mean that it is. So just read the policy and use your best judgement...it's all there...in insurance lingo!
