The challenge was to install the factory CB/Intercom on my '97 FLHT. I have seen a few related post here, over the years, so I thought I would add a rough over view for those who may be contemplating a similar undertaking. The pod and transeiver were bought through EBay. The pod had to be sent in to Sound Radio for a harness repair. The Passenger control also came from EBay. The radio harness was bought new from Harley as were the fuse filter board, the fairing speaker switch and misc connectors and what pins were still available. Missing connector pins came from various sources found searching the internet. The tourpack mount is not the standard Ultra unit so mounting brackets had to be fabricated to hold the transeiver. The housing for the fuse filter board is also a discontinued piece and had to be fabricated. The three wires that power the fuse filter board are a part of a cruise control harness, which does not exist here. I fabricated a small harness to power the board. The rear speaker pods and speakers came from Dragonfly. The CB whip antenna is Radio Shack.The pods are of a later design and required several hours to mount the Passenger control unit in the left pod. All in all I spent approximately $700 dollars. Four full days went into the actual installation with many more hours researching and searching for bits and pieces. Was it all worth it? In my case, and since the unit works just fine, yes. Would I have started the project knowing what I know now? Probably. For me it was an enjoyable exercise. I have the features I was wanting without the expense of a new bike. Incidently, John, at Sound Radio, tells me the same CB/Intercom unit was used on the '94 through '97 Ultras. The only qualifier when puting an older pod on a newer bike is the DIN extension cable that connects the primary radio with the POD. Hence there are two cable part numbers available. The differeence is a male verses female DIN connector. The new radio harness pluged right in to the main harness and the wires coming from the right handlebar controls. I did have to fabricate a PTT switch for the left handlebar and mount a suitable connector that would plug into the new harness. I trust this post will be of interest to someone out there. Thanks for the post; very nice project; congrats on the successful completion of the installation. I did a somewhat similar installation of a '98-'02 vintage HD radio/CB on an '06 police model EG. Much different CB/radio than your installation and no circuit board issue. But adding the PTT/Squelch switch, fabbing some connectors, etc. very similar. It isn't that difficult; just tedious; provided, of course, one has the wiring diagrams for the "old" installation and the companion diagrams for the new bike, AND the parts books, as well. Again, congrats. Post pics is you have them--we do love our pics, Also, I bought a complete CB transceiver, harnesses, console/pod, etc. from a '97 Ultra to install on my '04 police model EG. Those older units are an attractive alternative for the newer bikes because the CB is virtually a seperate electrical accessory, that doesn't use the radio for much--basically to interrupt the radio signal to the front speakers when receiving CB and playing it through the speakers IIRC. Sold the stuff after deciding not to alter the SG style long tank console to mount the console pod.
