Just a bunch of bull being passed on by someone that has probably never been down hard and rides a bagger.

I don't wear a helmet unless I want to hear my tunes at highway speeds or because I feel like it, and I d@mn sure don't need some geaser on a geaser ride feeding me crap like it's fact.

I have been down multipul times when I was into sport bikes where because I had a fulface helmet on I still have a face and the ability to grow hair on all of my head.

Only point I disagree with, was the statement that Dale Earnhardt died cuz of his helmet.

If you have gone down hard, you know the truth.

This guy is all about his bad boy image and full of himself.

I wouldn't take his advice any more than I would one of those self righteous TV preachors.....

My son went down last Easter at about 50mph. I have seen the helmet that he was wearing. Without it, he probably would not have made the call to tell me about the accident.

I think that a more pressing issue is making it illegal to talk on a cell phone while driving EVERYWHERE. It seems that every time that some idiot changes lanes into me or some other stupid move, they are always talking on the dang phone!

Over here in England, you have to pass a test and ride with a helmet. Mine has saved my face and teeth after a slide down teh road. The guy is full of ****

The subject of drinking and driving is brought up in the video and it sort of infers that bikers don't.....

The stuff he said in the end was ploy to to validate his argument. Drinking and driving, cell phones, Ron White getting a highway delight has nothing to do with wearing a helmet. If he was some kinda expert I may agree but he is not. I don't think I would be here today if my dad had not made me wear a helmet when I was a kid.

you guys are all wrong that guy has to be an expert didnt you see all his patches and those red white and blue fingerless gloves. he make's a poor argument for not wearing a helmet but I do agree with new riders taking the mfs and making it a moving violation forcell phone use while driving.

I can see a direct impact your finished helmet or not but if your sliding or tumbling that helmet is going to save you i will always wear a helmet

So the helmet is able to withstand a direct impact of 14mph. That doesn't mean that it won't protect your head at speeds well above that. If you crash at 50mph your head won't hit the pavement at 50mph. The impact speed will be vertical, not horizontal. Unless you run straight into a tree or a wall. Then, of course, the helmet won't do much good.

I've seen motorcycle racers tumble down the asphalt at 120+mph and hitting their heads hard numerous times. Those guys usually walk away from the scene.

Stupid guy, stupid video.

Seatbelts are state law in MN...whydont we have a helmet law? Politicians and money! I personally dont wear a helmet, but my two sons both ride wheelers and dirt bikes would not want me to catch them without em! It should be your choice, (adult).I know that my chances are much better with a helmet and I really dont care if people think I dont look cool with one on but I choose not to wear it. Freedom!

Can anyone honestly say they would rather not have a helmet on in a crash, given the choice?

5 lb helmet? Is he wearing a WWII army pot? I would never ride without a helmet. Last season a rock hit the side of my helmet like a a bullet. If I wasn't wearing a helmet I'd say not only would I've been bleeding there's a fair chance that thing would've knocked me out or made me dizzy enough to fall off the bike. If someone doesn't want to wear a helmet, and it's legal not to, that's their business but it's much safer with one.

Wearing a helmet is far safer than not wearing one. Ages ago when I was still a teenager, my brother and I and a couple of other guys were riding street legal enduro type bikes on paved country road on the way home on from an little dirt track not far away. A dog started chasing the lead bike then ran right into and under the front wheel of the third guy. He went down and got a horrible road rash in numerous places and his helmet had a major rash-like gash in it. I saw the whole incident with my own eyes and I saw the gash in the helmet after the fact. This guy would be either dead or drooling in cup for the rest of his life had he not had a helmet on. End of story.

I was 15 then and I am 50 now, and I have never ridden a bike without a helmet since. I appreciate the right to choose and I choose to wear a helmet.

How do you Do Gooders think it makes us guys feel, that believe in riders choice.Tell me why you think it so important to keep bringing up this worn outtopic.You seem stuck on the focus of wearing one,have youever listened to the statistics on people who were paralyzed or killed because of a helmet?You will never here from me about my concern over you wanting to wear one.I happen to be one of those veteran bikers that feels much safer without a skid lid! Hope you can sleep knowing that!

If you read the original post again you will see that it wasn't any of us "do gooders" that started this thread. You do what you want, it's your head.

Why do you focus on the very few times a helmet will cause death or paralysis? Even you must understand that the number of times where a helmet saves a life by far outweighs the number of times where it causes death. You may feel safer without a helmet, but you're not. It's just common sense.

I've been down the road 5 or 6 times in 20 years, and every time without exception, my head has hit the deck. My worst incident I covered 50yds with my head bouncing on the side of the helmet for most of it, and I walked away with a slightly bruised thigh and needing a new helmet but that was it.

The only thing that worries me now is that I ride an open face helmet (a good quality Shoei) but I no longer have the front face protection other than the wileyX's and a facemask which would shred on contact with the road or anything else for that matter. I know that it's a risk but then so is riding at 100mph with 350kg of metal between your legs!

There's always somebody that rationalizes away the importance of a helmet with the same populist BS. A helmet will save your life. An overblown ego will not.

Seems like the guy should be wearing a different kind of helmet and licking the windows on a very short bus. Helmets do save lives period. 14.5 mile an hour impact for D.O.T. standards is true. Hell Ive hit my head at work doing far less than that and it hurt like hell. As far as pros and cons on helmet wear. There are far more valid pros than cons. I still stand firm that it should be the riders choice and not the politicians. Wear it or dont wear it, its none of my business why someone does or doesnt. Live free or die!(NH state motto) Just dont preach to somone whom has made thier decision. Riding is about the freedom, I'd like it to stay that way.

He is right, well almost right about the testing. Its 15mph with a point impact and the helmet has to survive that to pass DOT. The european helmet standard is actually higher and believe it or not the new US Military kevlar helmet is actually better than 99% percent of the helmets out there.
Statistics show that in 98% of motorcyclist fatalities, the rider suffered at least 3 class one injuries that would have been fatal anyway so not wearing the helmet would not have mattered.

His presentation was entertaining though. If your an adult you should have the right to choose!

All that being said, I would and still do wear a helmet! Helmets do save lives!

I know of 2 instances here that people have died in slow speed acccidents that would have been with us today if they had worn a helmet. Is it a gaurantee "no". I do believe in freedom not to wear it if your an adult. But dont go spredding BS around that its safer without them all that is is BS. That vid is just plain wrong. The choice is yours but dont go spreading around BS that its safer withouth helmets.

2 incidents:
a friend was out riding with his wife on back when a deer jumped out in front of them. he swerved to avoid contact, and crashed. she was wearing a helmet, he wasn't. she got the worst of it. in a coma for 2 mo.
another friend lost control of his bike and went down getting a concussion. no helmet.
my wife has a sticker on her helmet that i agree with "my helmet my choice". i always were a helmet. i would like to be around to at least see my daughter graduate.
its like the saying goes " you never know when your time is up". i could die in my sleep for all i know.

I don't know about the "truth".&nbsp\\;

Wear it, don't wear it.&nbsp\\; That's an individuals choice and I don't believe in a Nanny State of laws.

It's not cool to claim it's safer to ride without a helmet though because the data strongly disagrees.&nbsp\\; I'd hate to think someone was influenced by his "report" to give up riding with their helmet based on his "information"

I threw a sports bike down the road a couple of years ago and hit the ground hard with my face. The chin guard on my helmet broke in three places but it saved my jaw from being shattered and probably a lot worse. I also had concussion and a painful whiplash injury so I went to hospital for an X-Ray. The doctor told me that I'd probably be dead without the helmet considering the force it must have taken to break it like it did.

I hate Helmets, I hate the way they feel and I hate the way they look.
&nbsp\\;
But I just went out and bought one today so I can ride a bike that isn't even registed yet..Note I wont ride it until it is.
&nbsp\\;
It wasn't what I wanted but it will work fot the time being.
&nbsp\\;
Also take note that the helmet in the video was a cheap 70's knock off of the Easy Rider worn buy Fonda.
&nbsp\\;
Most likely you could crack it with a ball bat.
&nbsp\\;
Stuff has changed, Drivers are worse today then back in the 70-80. Cell phones, GPS, On Dash Monitors in cars....Helmet at minimum is a must in traffic in may opinion.
