We went out the other day and I had to leave my CCW firearm at home since we were going out with some friends to a restaurant that service alcohol. Ohio law says I cant carry in these establishment.

I guess I'd break the Ohio law. My CCW goes with me - everywhere. If I don't need it, no one will know I have it. and if I need it to save my life - so be it.

Well...I would say that I lock it up in my saddlebag...but I don't frequent places that deny my constitutional rights.
I say when the restaurants finally figure out how much money they're missing out on, maybe they'llget out and lobby against the leftists's agenda that impedes Americans of theirright to keep and bear arms,as the Founding Fathers and the Framers of the U.S. Constitution invisioned.

I too avoid places that tell me I am not welcome, either with signs or because they don't want to fight against laws that bar me from entering.

I havea glued in holsterin the high side saddle bag that holds my gun in place and readily available when it is not on my person. The gun is always there, as I never take it out except to pratice or carry on my person.
I have gun in each of my vehicles on a permenant basis soI don't have to worry about forgetting to move one from one car to the other and I don't have to have it on my person at all times.

Here in Az. your not to carry into a resturant that serves, BUT I would rather be safe then sorry. what they don't know won't hart them BUT what they don't know may save your life.
If you go someplace that serves & someone see's you put your gun into your saddle bag, when you go in some one will be in your saddle bags removing your personal Items & you will have no way to protect yourself.

I'm not familiar with Ohio law, but in Virginia we have something similar about no CCW in places that serve alcohol. Exception is that we can 'uncover' and go 'open' carry and be legal there.
I will admit that I have 'forgotten' to uncover from time to time....as the saying goes 'concealed means concealed' what is your life worth to you?

Florida allows carry in a place that serves food, but if it is a beer/booze
only place, no can carry.
I also.....though.......sometimes carry where it may be illegal.
If no one knows I have it......no harm done. I once picked up my GF at
the airport and forgot I had my derringer in my coat pocket.....(she nearly sh&t a brick).
If I have to carry on my bike and can't conceal.......It is locked in the tour pack.
(not very locked when you think of it.....)

I know its not right but its the law........I dont go to places that voluntary puts up a sign and deny my right to carry. But sometimes when your with a group or meeting a group you really dont have much choice.
I have the leather wrapped bags on my RK and wanted to know if anyone has a good way to lock up mygun............

I think the laws that say you can't carry into an establishment that serves is idiotic at best.
For someone like myself that hasn't had anything in over 22 1/2 years, I wouldn't consider myself a risk for clouded judgement from too many Cokes.
Hard for me to say this, being as I live in the Land of 10,000 liberal lakes, which is 3rd onthe list for the most anti-gun sheeple per capita, our law is much better. Can't be over .04 & be carrying at the same time. Kinda makes more sense...don'tcha think?

sure hate to be .04 and robbed and knifed. Oh well......
the law IS the law. And the law works in most cases...
mostly 'law-abiders' are the reason.
If you have leather bags..it is kind of hard to secure a weapon....
especially if someone knows or thonks you may have some goodies in there.
If you you are unsure about carrying a weapon because some manager at some
resterant decided they didn't want you to carry.....then leave your defensive
weapon at home.
You really have no choice.

The best thing I could come up with is to use a cable lock.
You will probably have to drill a couple of holes in the bag so that you can run the cable around something solid.

I generally carry everywhere. Had to hand my piece off to another rider when I was taken to an emergency room after an accident. Otherwise, I figure it's going to stay concealed unless a dire situation presents itself whereupon I'll go by the old saying that it's better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

I'll go with your answer KTM Scott! As a CCW in Texas we can go most places you visit everyday, except for bars, schools and such and still be legal. Besides, if they don't know, then it is no big deal. If something happens, in Texas, there is a defense to prosecution clause if you have to use it where you shouldn't be carrying.

I will be blunt.
Leaving your gun in your saddlebags or in your car while you areaway from it. Is just plain DUMB.
The potential for theft is too high, and what have you done? Put your gun in the hands of a crook.
If you are going some place you are nit supposed to carry then leave it locked up at home.
Your better off taking it in with you and the risk is less if you keep it concealed.
Sorry, but as a LEO I will tell you. It is better off with you than in the ride. I would rather scold you for having it with you. Than have you file a report because some crook stole it.

Like becoming a criminal for carrying where your not allowed?
I know what you guys are saying (break the law - become a criminal) and as long as you dont get caught its OK. I agree its better to be judged by 12 than to be carried by 6 - But I will obey the law until I feel the circumstances warrant my illegal actions.
The right to carry certainly does come with responsibilities - like obeying the law. If your not worried about the laws why did you get a CCW in the first place? Why not just carry concealed - if its hidden correctlyno one would know, right?

Unfortunatly not all LEO's are like you. When dumb laws happen, people are sometimes forced to do dumb things. Sorry you Can't arrest me for having a gun stolen, you sure as hell can for carrying where you are not supposed to . Don't like it ? Me neither. Change the system.

SoCalHD put it best. Under your direct control means at all times. I'm almost sure that here in Mass it's not illegal to leave a firearm in an unattended vehicle(provided it is properly secured.) But, if your vehicle were to get stolen, it could be easily viewed as an irresponsible act and you would most likely kiss your LTC goodbye. My guns reside in two places. On my person or in my safe at home.

BTW,
CCW only prevents you from carrying concealed into an establishment that derives more than 49% of their business from alcohol sales. Thus, if it's like Chili's or TGI-Fridays, you're probably good.
However, most biker joints, and band-bars are NOT in compliance.
Also, most state laws require that when a CCW holder is transporting in a vehicle, that the ammunition and firearm must reside seperately, and one or both must be secured by lock and key.
Thus, technically if you have lockable hard bags, and the magazine is in one side, and the pistol in the other, you're okay.
Of course, LE always has the discretion in these matters, and at the very least, you're looking at probably having to get your property out of impound.

This varies by state, Some states you can carry in bars that don't serve food, Others have a 51% rule, I think there are even some that have an " Any establishment that servies alcohol" clause.

I'm sure transporting laws vary by state. I'll use Mass again because thats where I live and all I know about. A restricted class b permit requires you to transport with gun and ammo seperate and secured. A class a allows you to transport and carry fully loaded. It must be under your direct control at all times (basically on your person) and concealed.

In my state, if you carry somewhere that is posted or not supposed to, all they can do is ask you to leave. \\; If you do not comply and LE is called, you can be fines and /or lose your CCW. \\; I carry everywhere except into Federal Property and Banks. It is called concealed for a reason. \\; I have worn a IWB holster since 05 and have never been challenged. \\; Out of sight out of others mind.

I'm fairly certain that in NC there are guidelines for the specific size of signage covering no weapons allowed. \\; If the sign is not the correct size and / or placed in the appropriate place ( at all entrances for instance and not just the busiest ) you are not breaking the law by taking your CCW handgun in with you. \\; A business owner can't just tell his secretary to get on the computer and print up a sign that says no weapons allowed.

Only one business that I know of in town has a sign saying guns not allowed. \\; However, they can only ask you to leave. \\; And, you must. \\;

If you do not want to have it stolen while you are inside. In the case of most semi autos, I as an LEO, I \\;would recommend breaking it down and leave the barrel and or slide in the bags. If stolen no harm has been done and if a problem should come up inside you nolonger have a firearm, just a registered frame. Assemble and load when leaving. A padlock through the ejectionport and to a part of the bike will \\;keep it there as long as the bike is still there. \\;
Lowes has weather proof rubber coated master lock, three or four keyed alike, so not to damage the slide, for $16 to $22 in that range. I recomend that method as a home security for firearms in the CCW classes.
Different story with a revolver though. With most S&\\;Ws a amall screw driver will remove the forward cylinder lock screw allowing the cylinder to be removed. Kind of a pain in the you know where, but better than a trip to the Gray Bar Hotel for a few hours.

Not much if any. The positive (at least in VA) is that even if they post "no guns" the best they can do if they some how find my with a concealed weapon is to ask me to leave.
I do not hang out in bars much, but I would have to say there is no way I leave a gun on my bike.

When it's hot out I usually carry my sig 380 in a SOB holster, you'd be hard pressed to see it there. \\; Cold weather? \\;9 or 45. \\; Leave it in the bags, mmm \\; I can't see it. \\; The only way I could see parting from it would be if I was out and had to go into a federal bldg. \\; Generally when I leave the house I know where I'm going, so I can leave it in the house before \\;I leave if need be.

Here in northern Nevada we have a memorial Day run called Runamucca (it is held in Winemucca, Nevada) .. \\; This year a man goes into a bar in the wee hours. \\; Spots two (underage) men \\;who had shot and killed his brother two years earlier. \\; Man leaves, comes back with a gun, kills the two who had killed his brother. \\; Fires out the rest of the rounds indescriminately and wounds two innocents. \\; Now with the two dead he came after he begins to try to reload. \\; A CCW licence holder quickly puts an end to the violence before man does more harm. \\; \\; I just know you all read about it and saw the story on TV morning shows, right? \\;

If I ever have to leave my weapon in a vehicle, I disassemble it and bring the barrel in with me- that way my firearm, if stolen, will not be marked to me in the case of a felony.
 \\;
I carry a multitude of weapons from 1911s to .32 keltec, and I always take at least a portion of the gun with me.
 \\;
Though I limit the times I leave it in a vehicle to the bare minimum
