Well we have decided. Going to get a Liberty sidecar
Initially it was the wife's idea and the more I thought about it, I liked getting one too. It would allow for the three of us to be able to ride together and still retain the classic look of a HD. I've made the decision to order a Liberty sidecar. My only question is will I be able to get a matching 18" wheel for the hack as well? I am also getting the bike painted to mineral gray (Ford color) but with some graphics. I'll now just have it all painted together at the same time.
I return from my deployment in 2 months and will take the sidecar driving course in VA. I have heard great things about it. Anything else that I should look into? My engine is a 98" setup with the below dyno numbers and a Baker DD6 tranny. Upgraded the brakes too so I think I have it covered. Anyone know if I will have to remove my 2into1 exhaust for a dual setup? Do sidecars limit your daily riding when on trips. I read the other thread and most only go a few hundred miles a day. |

Abnmarine,
Congrats and I think you will find you've made a decision that everyone close to you will benefit from. I had always thought about it when the kids were younger but money was always an issue. I finally took the plunge 7 months ago and now the grand kids are enjoying the benfit. And the Liberty is one of the better choices in my opinion. I imagine getting the 18" wheel should be just like on your bike. |

I figured the 18" wheel would work, just wanted to check though. I'd prefer not to get rid of my wheels if adding a hack. Still not sure on the D&D Fat Cat though. If it won't work, I'll swap them for the Bub7 duals with the crossover.
Last question, Do sidecars limit your daily riding when on trips. I read the other thread and most only go a few hundred miles a day. I have done 1,100 mile trips on two wheels before non-stop. Would it be safe to say 600-700 miles a day with a sidecar if on a trip? |

Elaine and I took the three wheel STEP class in Loundon Cty NVCC three years ago, now. I can't tell you how far you will get, but your passengers might. The Hack can get a bit cramped from my point of view. The rascal will be a bit tougher ride... handling and muscling thru curves. You will find out bout that in the class. If you have run Iron Butts, you may not have a 10 hour problems, but your range will reduce some; increased load and drag.
Ride safe and often ER, sounds like you do. PS Welcome back, again. 96flgeez. |

Your engine and tranny can easily handle the hack. My is a 88 and I have no problem at all. I don't think your 2 into 1 will interfere with the connections, but am not sure. I ride just as far with my hack as I used to before I had my accident. The big plus is that you can carry tons of stuff in it. I've carried groceries, my Martin guitar, a variety of guns to the range, AC filters from Lowe's, the wife, and the list goes on. Hack |

Abnmarine, I've never used it to go camping, but I can see one big advantage - off road. If you have to travel on dirt, gravel, wet, muddy, etc road. The hack will definitely help you not bust your azzz. Especially if you're pulling a trailer.
Thanks Hack. I was hoping the hear this. I didn't want to have to change out the wheels and the exhaust when adding this. It's also good to hear that others put a lot of miles on their setups. We are also looking into a small trailer/camper for outings. The wife always wanted to go camping and after seeing one in another thread, figured getting one to be towed with the bike would get used more.
Look at Open Road Outfitters, in Sterling, VA http://www.openroadoutfitters.com/tr...TOKEN=60039980 Dale Coyner, Motorcycle Journeys Through the Appalachians , principal and builder of the mini camper. Elaine and I met him at his lecture in Williamsburg, VA HOG last year. Nice guy, good book. |
