I'm getting ready to trade in my bike, and thought it would be useful as a negotiation tactic to know what kind of deal other people are getting.
List the details of the deal you made buying your new bike.
Include, dealership, trade in info, interest rate, how good your credit is, money down, extras financed length of loan and monthly payment.

What? this post has been up all day and not one reply?
Are you all too embarrassed to say how much you paid for your ride?
OK, I'll start
Bought my 1200R new 8/04 at H-D of Charlotte
Paid $8200.00
Put $1000.00 down and got 8% interest
I have good credit score of 760
I did not finance anything else, no extras.
Monthly payment of $202.65

Cash but don't tell them till you get the deal done. the only way to buy a bike is save and buy cash in my book same way with cars then make payments to your self each month for your next one.
The best option is almost always to save your money and pay cash!
I bought a '08 FXD when they first hit the showrooms (7/07) -- paid cash. Really loved that bike, had done a little bit of "personalization" and planned on more. Unfortunately, I T-boned a cage a few weeks ago, bike was totalled but I walked away (thanks to the right gear andamazing luck!). The cage driver was at fault, and his insurance company didn't try too hard to screw me, soIgot a decent property settlement check.
Prior to the crash, I was already lusting after a '05FLSTN Softail Deluxe owned by a neighbor. The bike has a few options (S-E pipes, crash bar, 5 yr ESP,etc.), and is near-mint condition, always garaged, only~4,000 miles. He had been talking for some time about maybe selling, never seemed to ride anywhere, financials were clearly stressed. Shortly aftermy crash, I asked if he was serious about selling --he said he'd behappyto hand the bike over "forthe loan payoff"and would include severalpieces of luggage and assorted other accessories. He'd purchased the bike new with just a tradein fordown payment (~3K) andfinanced with H-D for 7 years at 12.25%(!)
That's a good example of how not to buy a bike...
Anyway, I bought the bike for the loan payoff, cash transaction.

Uh, yeah I know the best deal would be cash, kind of a no-brainer there.
But, since I don't have $15k lying around........
What I'm really after here is what interest rates people with good credit are getting now on 2008 bikes.

Here's a view from the other side of the fence.
2004 Road King Police
Gator Harley-Davidson - Leesburg, FL
No trade
$1050 down
Bike price - $10,000 before down payment
Crappy credit (580-600)
17% interest, $250/month @ 72 months
Financed through Eaglemark Savings Bank
No extras
I basically fell into this deal. Been looking for a new bike. A friend of mine from the local parts store told me about a friend of his who is a salesman from Gator. They worked for 3 weeks to find me a bike for the price I needed, and worked out the financing. It's not my dream bike (I wanted a Ultra Classic), but it's better than my 86 Honda.

The key here, is to have excellent credit, it saves you a ton of $$. I only financed $7600.00 and was going to get Credit union financing for 7.5%, HD had 7.99%, then the stealer caught wind of my credit rating and offered me 5.9% cause they want more $$ out of the deal. I went with HD. 178.00 a month.

I got financing thru my credit union at 5.75%. I believe new is 5.5%. As long as you qualify for a loan, that's the rates you get.
One dealer offered 9% (uh... no), and the other tried to get me to go new. I believe he said he could get 6.9% or so.
My credit score is ridiculously high, so I'm sure that had a lot to do with it.

Shop around and haggle and \\;for the lowest price, Shop around and haggle for highest trade in (or sell it yourself).
Shop around and haggle for the lowest interest (without penalties for early payoff).
I wanted to pay cash. Ended up with 50% down and will have it paid off within 1 year.

Paid cash for every bike I own. The economy has changed and the supply of Harleys exceeds demand, so they do now depreciate -- you can't expect to buy a bike for $x and sell it for $x the next day like you could in the 90's up until the 100th.
A guy I met paid $22 OTD for his 07 Streetglide, fell into financial trouble, and now is trying to get $17,500 for it, and he's competing against other bikes that are closer to the NADA of $15,500-$16,000 that have lower miles and more extras than his.
So before you go finance a bike, make sure you can put at least 20% down, if not more, of the OTD price. Then, make sure you have 4-8 motnhs' emergency fund lest something go wrong.
I'm not an Orman believer or a Ramseyite, just have lived life upside down and it sucks. No more. The only debt I carry is a mortgage.

I bought an '08 Heritage 105th back in March. I got it for under 19,000 - it was stickered at 19.,600 I think. Got all the BS shipping and prep fees waved which saved me about $900.00. They don't budge much on the price but will take off those charges if you push it. Also got them throw in $500.00 in store gift card (which you WILL use). I put $4000.00 down and got 5.2% for 72 months. Payment is around $250.00. I have a credit score of 800. Bike was purchased at ChiTown in Tinley Park, IL. On a side note, they do run fininacing deals if you watch. Had I bough my 105th before Feb 1st, I would have got 1.05% but I missed that one. Hope that helps.

do you own your home? or are you a member of a credit union? among of the ways that dealers make money is by taking trades and selling financing. agreed it is much easier to ride your old one in sign a few papers and ride off on your new one. if you own your home a equity line of credit might be a great way to go my bank is offering them for 5 3/4% also as a member of a credit union thru work is also a great way to get a low interest loan. also you could borrow against your 401k and pay yourself back each month. also if your not upside down (owe more than your bike is worth), selling it outright can save you a couple thousand $'s. these are all more work than a trade in w/ dealer financing. but look at it this way you could invest 20 hours and save $4k - when was the last time you made $200 per hour tax free. of course if you normally make that, screw it let the dealer do the work.
