The primary case lube is low in my 98 road king. I just got the bike i dont know what oil is in the primary im assuming hd. Is there an oil i can add so i can ride a couple days before i make it to the hd shop. Can 20w50 gtx be used or added in the primary even if its being mixed with hd or something else. thanks

forget the ATF
The primary is for the wet clutch and chain, because of the wet clutch people keep coming up with this idea OH atf works in automatic transmission. Your primary is not an automatic tranmission.
Primary uses OIL

Add regular engine oil not sny it does not have to be 20/50 in fact 20/50 may be a bit to heavy some do use it
The primary is one place you do not want sny or any fancy stuff.
Best for primary is HD F+ run sny every were else but not sny3

I've been using petroleum 20W-50 in the summer and 10W-40 (below 30-degrees F) in the winter in the primary for 3-years....never had an issue....I change it every 1K miles....no problems. Use yourparticular brandand stick with it....

Formula+ is 50w dino oil. You don't want to put automotive car oil in your primary because the additives are not good for the clutch. Some oils with no moly are:

HD Formula +
HD Syn3 20w50
Mobil1Vtwin 20w50 or 10w40
Redline MTL or MT90

Not sure about Amsoil 20w50MCV but lots of people use it with very good results.

This may be a stupid question (in fact, I know it is!).. I just had my primary cover off to do FC install. But for the life of me, I can not find where I put new oil in or how to check the level! Have on 07' Low Rider.. The shop gave me a quart of oil to put in. Is it the flat plug in the right side behind the jugs with the hex hole in it?

Ok, I broke out my manual and found that it was the plug in the back which has a dip stick attached to it. My problem is, I know I took about a quart out of the primary cover when I removed it.. But the damn dip stick says full! I warmed up the bike to normal operating temp and let it sit overnight.. but it still says full! ARGH! I don't have the warm & fuzzies about oil actualy being in the primary now. The engine oil dip stick says full as well.. What should I do?

I used to think there were no stupid questions, just stupid people... You have not changed my thinking... Perhaps you should read that "manual" you havea little more before you start that bike again and before you grab another wrench.........
