ok so I pick up my new bike that I bought from a guy. Well he desided to put too much oil in it. Was riding home and noticed the ridght side of the bike and myself was covered in oil. Well the oil cooked on the exhaust, and I couldn't get it off. Plus he also had some burnt boots on the pipes as well, no biggie. So I heard that people used Easy Off on their hot pipes to clean it. I gave this a try, not knowing what it would do to hot polished aluminum. I posted pics to show people that have never tried this and is thinking about giving it a try. BECAREFUL!!! Also I was wondering if there is a way to get my polished look back. I saw some people on here talking about Metal Polish, http://master-formula.com/Metal%20Polish.htm. If anyone has had this happend and was able to get their shine back, can you please give me a few tips. I learned my lesson and don't need a tipnottouse Easy Off on aluminum. lol One more thing, I tried to use Mothers aluminum polish.

This is going to be a pain in the arse for you to do but it might work depending on how long and at what temp your eazy off cooked at. First go down to (Lowes) or any home improvement store. Get 1000 grit steel wool($5.00). the steel wool is softer than aluminium so it will not scratch. also you can contort the wool to fit into tight spaces as needed. Next get some billet aliuminum polish, I personally recommend (mothers ($5.00 ) but any will do. get a good amount of polish on the steel wool and begin scrubin the polish will turn black , don't worry that is normal. rinse and repeat until luster is returned. Again this works for me but alot depends on how long the cleaner was on the aluminum and how far it broke it down. Please try in an inconspicous place first as to not make it worse than what you started with. Let me know if it worked or not.

Not going to paint it black, it wouldn't look good with my bike. When I get back in town I will get up with a friend that does polishing and crome plating. I might give that master formula a shot. I mean hell, how much worse can it. If anything, I will just ride it around until winter, then get it taken care of one way or another. But if anyone still has ideas, I am all ears.

No type of cleaner will fix that, you chemically etched the aluminum. The only fix is to sand and polish. BTW STEEL wool is not softer than aluminum, lol. The next time you want to get crap off your pipes, use brake cleaner and spray it on a rag, not the bike.

Make sure you've washed it down with plenty of water otherwise that stuff might still be slowly eating its way into the metal. Aluminum can corode in strange ways particularly with alloy castings which are granular.
You might have to bite the bullet and take the engine out and get it bead blasted or something. I know this sounds like a drastic solution but at least you will be able to do a good job. You can then get it profesionally polished or polish it yourself and it will look better than ever before.

Thanks for the info. I wont be able to work on it until next weekend, due to being out of town for work. But I bought the stuff to fix this problem. I bought some restore and polishing products form this site. www.englishcustompolishing.comwatched their videos on how to polish and what not. I am pretty sure I can get this problem fixed until riding season is over with. If I do need to sand, I bought the tools for the dremel. Plus I picked up some greaseless abrasives (400, 600 and 1000 girt)for the buffing wheel. I will post up pics. But if need be, I will rip the engine out and do the whole thing
