Hello,
I've just rebuilt my S&S carb per specs and now have it mounted on the manifold with the throttle cable attached.  Possible issue:  Is the butterfly when the throttle cable disengaged supposed to be closed flush with the venturi hole or carb body hole?  Even with the throttle cable removed, it doesn't seem to want to close shut.  I need some good advice here.  Thanks.

is you idle screw, screwed in holding the butterfly open?
dose the butterfly open and close smoothly?

The idle screw is not hanging up the butterfly and the butterfly opens and closes smoothly.  The butterfly and throttle shaft are new (came w/ the kit) and I did notice the new butterfly is snug.  Should I re-use my old butterfly?  Thanks Rodney.

Your butterfly may not be perfectly centered, try loosening the two screws that hold it in place. Just 1/2 to 1 turn loose, the butterfly should close completely. The butterfly should float right into position. Tighten the crews again. Good Luck.

make real sure you lock those screws after position is correct.
Sure wouldn't want your engine eating them.

The throttle plate has an angled grind that allows it to be installed PROPERLY only in one position.
Check it carefully to ensure you have it properly installed.  You will be able to tighten it in the incorrect position so look closely for the bevel.

Thanks for all your help and great advice.  The butterfly is positioned correctly w/ the angles in the appropriate direction.  The fix was to remove it and reposition it.  It closes almost completely when the cable is adjusted.
