Then there is the recent video of a guy on a street bike trying to out run the cops. One is behind chasing while another approaches from the front and cuts in front of the bike. The guys runs head-on into the cop and is flipped foward several feet. He gets up and they put him on the ground and cuff him. I had a guy pass me in town at a HIGH rate of speed in thick traffic recently. He almost took my mirror off ( my cage ) then weaved thru traffic. Sure enough the HP was chasing him, don't know if they got him or not.

The troopers should have hit them harder.   At some point, the lawyers and elected folk that run this country will have the Police so tied, we will all be able to really just sit at the donut shop and drink coffee and eat donuts because we won't be allowed to do anything else for fear that we're being mean and over-zealous.

Can't believe they went at the bike head on. They guy even stood up and walked. If I was on that bike I would have loved to punch that cop in the face. Sometimes cops suck!!!!

The ass wipe on the crotch rocket had a choice to make- stop for the cops and take a warning, ticket, whatever or run. He made the bad choice to run and you think the cops suck? I think if you decide to run, you must be willing to accept whatever concequences come your way. That turd is lucky he didn't kill himself or someone else. I think the cops did him a favor. You wanna be a tough guy and run from the cops, then be a tough guy when you get caught.

Wonder how those guys would have justified the use of deadly force against traffic and/or misdemeanor violations?  In the eyes of the courts, just cuz somebody is stupid, doesn't justify actively doin somethin that might kill 'em.

I have 25 years as a LEO and I would have helped the Biker kick their Ass.  The chase needs to weigh why are we chasing him for maybe speed.  Don't try to kill him.

I also have 25 plus years as a LEO.    I take the opposite approach.    You run (on foot or in a vehicle) you have to expect a whooping.  That's the trade off for running.
Unfortunately, bdaug50 hits it right on the head with what "society wants", except I stay away from the donuts.

I also former LEO, we all have to make choices EVERYDAY, he made the wrong one, I would much rather he possibly be hurt if need be to get him stopped,  than MY FAMILY. With your adittude I can see why so many are running today.

Speed?....could have been a mass murderer riding a stolen bike that hasnt been reported yet...no body knows except the crook.....why would a normal sane person RUN because of a couple of tickets?.....The Officers don't even know why he is running but nine out of ten times it is something more serious than the violation they were gonna stop him/her for.

And as a LEO with 25 years experience you should know that.

Was he running because he just robber a bank? Shot someone? Ran a red light?

I would say that hitting him was deadly force. Those are the questions that need to be answered.

Running from the cops, especially on a bike is a bad idea. You gotta know if you choose to do this, things could quite possibly go really bad for you.

There is not enough information here for me to have a solid opinion on whether deadly force was justified in this situation or not. But if the leo had good reason to believe the guy was putting others in danger.................. well you see the result.

To make all things equal....lets RENAME this THREAD to :

"Another EVADING ARREST video"

Why is it always "Cop Chase"?
There would NEVER be a chase if they didn't RUN.

I too am a retire LE Chief...The police is just one element of the judical system...and most certainly they are not the punishment side of our system. "Protect" (means all people even the bad guys) and "Serve" serving the best interest of sociaty. When we allow law enforcentment to serve as the punishers we decline our civialization to anarchy which is not in our best interest. Yes our system is not perfect, but it is the best proven one in the world. If we allow our system to waiver from its intent where do we stop; where do we start; who do we allow to make those choices? The image of law enforcement is declining by their own hand. The job is not getting easier because we in some ways have made it harder on ourselves. It is a tuff job requiring tuff people to do it; tuff not by abusing your authority, but controlling it. Trust and respect of ones authority is earned and can easily been even or taken away. Yes stupid people need to expect consequence, but not at the arbitrary hands of just anyone. The system may not alway seem right but it really is the best one out there; if you have been to other countries you will know what I mean. Police officers must follow the law they are empowered to enforce; esculation and justifiable use of force is a standard and the law for law enforcement. Are we prepared as a sociaty to be arbitrary with our individual opinions and allow random selective exercise of that authority? Where does it stop; when it effects you and yours? Do we really want or can we except our police to have the authority of "street justice"? Come on!

Sorry, Chief - but IMO the biker is puttin' a LOT of folks at risk with his attempt to evade - to the point of endangerment with a deadly weapon - his high-speed bike ridin'.  If he loses control an' runs into someone, it wouldn't be purty - so ta me, it's the same as brandishing....
