I have an 07 Super Glide with the speedo on the handlebars which I love.  I want to put a tach on the handlebars too and have the kit from Harley but it doesn't exactly say that it can go on an 07.  Has anyone else put one on their Dyna with the Harley kit?

Also - got a dent in my fuel tank...no I didn't do it.  It was an accident that happened while it was in the trailer and a strap snapped...etc., long story.  I'm not sure if it can be fixed or not.  If not, I was thinking a new tank...maybe a little slimmer to be a bit more streamlined along with a different narrower seat...  Any thoughts?  Anybody replaced their tank?  Any idea how much $$ I might be looking at?  I have no clue!  I've only got 215 miles on this bike so I'm a little bummed...but it leaves the opportunity for other ideas!

The kit for the tach addition from HD will work. The harness is a little short so you may have to end up withthe connector outside the frame unless you want to extend the wires. If ya decide not to use it, I might buy it off ya.......

If you get into switching tanks out, it can get expensive, even with finding used stuff on Ebay you'll still spend a little dough if you want to convert the tank to say, a StreetBob tank or if ya want the tach and speedo in the tank, a Lowrider tank.

I can't give you a balpark cause it varies depending on how far ya want to go.

Rode with DougsDyna the other day and he has that setup Mike. Looked prety cool, but if you don't mind the side by side look, the tach addition kit is almost half the price.

Thanks for the ideas guys.  I actually like the speedo and tach on the handlebars - gives it a kind've old fashioned look or something...  I'm glad that the tach can be added on.  Sorry Jay - but I'm pretty sure I'm going to be using but on the slim offchance I don't I'll let you know.

As for the tank - I'll only replace it if it needs it.  All I really want is a slimmer looking tank.  I feel like the tank is kinda wide.

I've got the HD speedo & tach on my 06 bars and like it....and FYI, I did add risers which changes the angle of the gauges to a upright position. Most on here complain about the look.......but, I personallly like it...to each is own I guess.

Hi Pappy - do you happen to have a pic of your bike?  I'm thinking about changing out my handlebars though I think risers would do the trick.  But with the speedo and tach mount I am just unsure.

vermont, here's a couple pix of my 06 SuperGlide with risers and the dual gauge conversion.

Wiring is fairly straight forward, gotta modify slightly.

As for the tank slimming, you can only lose about 2" because of the fuel pump.
I'm working on one now.

Mudpuddle,

I love the dual gauge set up you have. Do you have part numbers, a link, or anything to point me in the direction to convert my '08 FXD speedo only to the dual you have?

Matthew, here is the part# for the kit that I used - 67224-04
Requires slight modification to wiring,
unless you want to leave connector outside the neck.

I think the full price is about $285.
I got lucky and got my kit for 50 percent off.
It was on the clearance table cause the packaging was torn.

Kit includes the tach, dual bracket, wiring harness, misc fittings, etc.

I think I am going to look into picking that up. Seems to me that for the price it is worth it just to get the tach. I am curious if the bracket will mount on my FXD. I might have to get a different bracket. I want to change out to a different bar set up anyways.

If you change the risers and you do not like the speedo sticking straight up, there is a mount made by Accutronix that will move the mount to the risers. Some people have rigged up a mount to the brow of the headlight. You can use some deep well craftsman sockets as spacers (they are already chromed!) and just get the right bolts to hold it on.

Well, I went out and picked up a bunch of stuff. Risers, drag bars, dual guage bracket, forward controls, and Sportster handlebar clamp.
I am most of the way through setting it all up. It is all together and functioning. I am now just finishing up the 'making it all pretty' part. Making the wiring run nicely as well as other things.

I will post a pic in the next day or so when it is finished.

The Dyna is starting its journey. It was a caterpillar and is on its way to becoming a butterfly.

Mud i like your guages! People try to hide them but i use mine.... i like that set up... Verm, when i got ready to do my tach mod, i used this... then i went a bit diff and did a lowrider dash on my bike.... but the tach that Kpreece uses is great! and looks cool, if i am not mistaken it is the same one you have is it not?

Well, I got the gauges installed. I am mostly happy with them. I think I am going to make a slight modification though.

I think I am going to grind my handlebar clamp so I can have the gauge bracket mount in between the upper and lower bar clamp. I picked up a handle bar clamp that was originally for a Sporty for $12 so if I end up destroying it then I won't be out a lot of money.

There was one disappointing bit about the gauge kit. The lights are not colored. Now it is possible that the kit is for all Dynas except my '08 FXD seems to be happening a lot to me. However, the oil, high beam, turn indicators and so forth are lit up by white-ish bulb light. No color to them. So I have a left arrow, a right arrow, a big N and whatnot, but it is all uncolored. White N instead of Green N, white high beam instead of blue.....

My original light cluster had colored LED's. The directions and the contents list of the kits mentions that I need to make sure to not lose the indicator lens with the lettering and the indicator arrows and to install them with the new kit, but says nothing about a colored lens.

Did any of your kits have this problem? I am just trying to find out if this is normal. I don't want to look like an idiot at the parts counter asking for a little multi-colored piece of plastic that does not exist.

A couple of the solutions I have for this if I am just stuck with this unit is to either wire in my old light cluster into the new dual gauge harness or I can go to an art & crafts supply store and buy some amber, blue, green, and red transparent plastic sheets and make colored inserts for the unit.

Opinions?

I am just starting to look on line about adding a tach to my new 2008 super glide. It looks like some of you folks have already done this and I could use some help.   I had a 2007 Sporter and added the tach kit myself on that bike but when I look for a tach kit for my 2008 none comes up with the dealer or after market.  It looks like you folks got the 67224-04 to work but where did you plug in the tach?  I look under my 2008 gas tank and I don't see any plug like I saw on my 2007 Sporter.   I have a after market tach right now, it does not track the RPM's correctly and it just looks "okay".  I tapped in the line feeding the ignition module and most likely that is why the tach is not tracking correctly.

Does the 2008 Super glide have a tach plug? If so, where is it?
