I've been thinking of building a new bike. With 3 car payments and a bike payment, I really don't want to start another expensive project so I've been toying with the idea of changing my bike a bit.

Obviously, here is what it looks like now.

I'm thinking of replacing the front wheel with a smaller 18" wheel instead of the 21" but instead of 3.25" wide, I was thinking of putting a 5.5" wide wheel on the front.

I'm thinking of trying to give it a low, short, fat drag bike look. I'll have to change handlebars to a set of drag bars.

Any opinions? Is the front fat tire idea a good or bad idea?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi there Mark,

Going for the excyle looks??? Man I think you ride looks perfect, I´d start another project but since you brought up the $$$ factor... having a wider front tire doesn´t hurt the bikes performance or looks. You´ll have and edge on pavement potholes with a wider tire...  what else??? My $.02

Mimo...

I think you should go for the stock softail standard look, that would be different!

or you shjould consider AA, Accessories Anonymous, meetings for a while.

Your bike looks awesome, enjoy it for a year or two as is.

Mimo,

What's up bud? Yeah, I'm really digging the excycle/waltz hardcore style/looks. I really want a drop seat framed, wide tire, low slung on air bike.

I saw one a few years ago and cannot get that image out of my head.

Thus the reason why I'm thinking of putting the short fat wide tire on the front and changing paintjobs.

Thanks WDG, just getting bored, I guess.

Amy says if I'm not wrenching, I'm not satisfied.

Those paint jobs can get expensive, unless you know a good painter .Looks good now,but the style you're talking about is the shit.Since you like tinkering anyway I say go for it.Maybe you'll win another BOTM.

bike looks good as is...but if you want to add a fat front do it...it can always be taken off if you don't care for it

Well, I'm gonna probably paint the bike again anyways so since I'll have to replace the front fender.... not a big deal.

Yeah, I saw one of their bikes a few years ago at Myrtle Beach. I forget the name of it but it was built by this company in Canada, it just made my jaw drop. I'd love to do my own since I can't afford theirs (80K +) I could come pretty damn close for half the money doing it myself.

Your bike looks awesome as is, but I have not discovered any type of contentment with my bike either, so I say go for it.  I have a running list of mods that I have planned too.

I wouldnt change a thing. Bike is sweet as is. Im kinda the same as you, not happy unless tinkering or wrenching on something, but I always find that when i mess with something that i had already considered "done", i end up wanting it back the way it was. I say leave it and save the $$$ you were gonna spend on messing with the bike for a new project bike. A cheap sportster turned bobber would be the tits!

That's funny... that was my next thought. I don't want a bobber but a fat tire sportster with drag bars might be pretty cool. I put the bike for sale, we'll see if it sells. If it does... there's my answer.

Your bike is SICK as is!  I would not change a thing!  If I were gonna do it, I would start another bike project.  Since you already have a bike to ride now, you can plan it out, and slowly buy parts, as funds become available.  This way, you can build the "Ultimate Bike", and still have something to ride.  Just my $.02!

I'm sitting on two bikes and have thought about selling the Sporty even though I ride it to work and break it out some too.  Just barley thought about it.  That's what I should do.  Make something of it over a L O N G period of time so that it can be affordable.  Nothing radical, just bob it and drop it down just a bit.  Retain stock frame and work with it.
I like your Orange Crush like it is, but the far front tire would be kool too.

That's my thought, exactly! Sell it, let someone else appreciate your handywork and you can start a new project.

The second one looks like a std tire that comes in tourer's (or fat boy) front wheel Mark...

I understand the temptation to change out your bike...but on the other hand its one of the best looking ones here on the forum and one that a lot of guys would give their nutz for.  Either sell it outright to quit being tempted or pick up another bike and mess with it for awhile.

This stuff is addicting and there's probably a 12-step program out there somewhere we should all consider joining.

Ride safe.

I can't make up my mind. I love the bike but really want something different. Guess we'll see what is out there. I put the bike up for sale on HD4Sale.com and already received emails (I only put it in there last night)

If it sells, I'll definitely start a new project.
