S&S vs. Mikuni
anyone have an opinion to which carb is the better overall carb? I'm getting ready to purchase either a Mikuni 45 or an S&S Super G. GIMME SOME 411!! :)

had S&S on evo found it to be ok put on a miknui way better throttle response. S&S easier to tune but i would have to say Mikuni once set up is way better carb!!! IMO good luck to ya

Mikuni, the 45mm is for large displacement. Make sure it's not overkill on yours.

What's your bike and how is it? Depending of the bike, the Mikuni 42 probably be better than the 45.
I have the Mikuni in my bike and I love it, the bike has a lot of better response than the stock CV. -- Javi |

local shop has a S&S 145 and ran the super g, gas hog, went to a super e. i have one on my bike, 4 years and no problems.

thanks for the responses. it's going on a 103" motor. i had heard the mikuni's were a pain to tune, that's what was leading me away from them...but also heard, once tuned, they are fantastic.

Mikuni has better response and pick-up. Both have to be taken off to fine tune but if you pay dyno time the Mikuni is the way to go ............. deciding factor for me was initial starting and flatslide throttle pick-up off the line ........... HSR42, 75% are OK from the box.

Mikuni's are not hard to tune!! Just read the manual follow the steps and you will be OK. Most are just slightly rich out of the box. Bolt it set the accelerator pump as it can give you a false rich reading then check the plugs and follow the instructions. Or take it to your nearest bike meet that DR. Dyno will be at and he will get your pig flying!!!!!!

I have an S&S E on my chopper. I don't notice the low RPM sluggishness some of the heavier bikes seem to have. It may have less pulling power below 2000 rpm but the rollon from 50 mph(2500 rpm) to 100 is phenomenal. If it accelerated any harder I wouldn't be able to hold on. I can't vouch for the Mikuni, but I just love blowing by the front fender of semis, passing their rig at 100+mph.
