I've been riding a sports bike for 5 years now, and thinking of upgrading to bigger and better things. So looking around at different options for the past few months, I am seriously thinking about getting a v-rod, probably the anniversary edition. Hence, a few questions for the experts: * Which dealer in the NOVA/DC area (there are a few around) is better than others - although I am close by to the one in Fairfax * What should I consider to be a good deal around here (I am looking to buy new) - any notes on what you paid/when will be much appreciated * How much more difficult is it to navigate a v-rod as compared to a sports bike (although at 6'2 190lbs I hope it won't be too tough :) * Finally which one do I go for? - I am split between the regular and the nightster Any other recommendations/words of advice? I am planning on making the trip to the dealer over the weekend and will report back... Thanks! PS. And yes, I consulted here http://www.hdforums.com/m_3164966/tm.htm and "I love not sitting on my nuts!" comment makes me think I am making the right decision :)

At 6'2", 190 lbs (is there an echo in here? ) I love our 06 D. Some people don't like mid controls. Go figure. Mids and the highway pegs made it the right bike for us. We ride double a lot. As for maneuvering, as part of a group of four V-rods and one Beemer, we chased a group of sport bikes around north Georgia. We obviously couldn't cathch them. They couldn't lose us, either. The comment from the lead rider on the sports was "I lost that bet. The trail rider said there was a bunch following us and I made the comment that I bet they weren't Harleys". They had an interesting 5-way radio set up. As for which one you want, I can't tell you. The D and the R are the ones with mids. The R is out of production but can still be found. The D is in production and almost impossible to find. The DX, Night Rod Special, is generally considered the best looking and worst handling. Worst handling only by V-rod standards. The R or Street Rod is supposed to be the best handling. I would tend to agree. The D, or Night Rod, as far as I'm concerned is the best all around bike. It does twisties and Interstates equally well. It handles very well with a passenger. During our north Georgia mountain run out of all 10 bikes concerned, I was the only one with a passenger. The rest are cruisers. Fast cruisers that handle very well, but still cruisers. Test ride all the models you can find. One will suit you.
