Default thunderheader install on a shovel

Hey everyone,
New member zoom here. Question? Just purchased a thunderheader for my 83 FLH and it has the correct rear mount but the pipes that lead to the heads are different than the stock weld flange that are held in by a single screw. Do i need to order special exhaust clamps? The header ends, where they mount to the head, are round with a welded ring about a half inch from the end. Diameter is inch and three quarter. They sell exhaust clamps at J and P with the screws and gaskets. Im thinking they slip over the pipe and that the pipe fits into the head and the clamp grabs the ring when I tighten it to the head? Am i on the right track? Any insight you can give would be helpful. Thanks, ZOOM

I'm pretty sure there is a retaining ring you can remove from each pipe, that might allow you to use the ones from your stock exhaust, Mark

Thanks for the help mark, but those flanges are welded on the stock exhaust so i cant use them. The new thunderheader pipes will replace the entire system from the heads to the collector. Ive ordered those shark bite clamps from JP and hopefully theyll work. Saving the complete dual system with my 2and a half diameter fish tail mufflers though case i get tired of the thunderheader. Just wanted to see if i get a little more performance. FYI, the motor is bored 10 over, fresh valve job, sifton cobra cam, oversize jims lifters and pushrods, crane hi4 single fire ignition and an s and s super e. The thunderheader should hook it up nicely, ya think. Thanks again,,ZOOM

good luck, I think you'll be pleased I have a thunderheader on my 02 Fatboy, it's a 96" motor with about 100 hp and 105 lbs of torque, I would not use any otherexhaust for performance , it'll definately pick up the torque, latr, Mark
