Things I have learned in Georgia .......

*        A possum is a flat animal that sleeps in the middle of the road.
*        There are 5,000 types of snakes and 4,998 of them live in Georgia
*        There are 10,000 types of spiders. All 10,000 of them live in Georgia , plus a couple no one's seen before
*        If it grows, it'll stick ya. If it crawls, it'll bite cha.
*        "Onced" and "Twiced" are words
*        It is not a shopping cart, it is a buggy.
*        "Jaw-P?" means "Did y'all go to the bathroom?"
*        People actually grow and eat okra.
*        "Fixinto" is one word.
*        There is no such thing as "lunch". There is only dinner and then there is supper.
*        Iced tea is appropriate for all meals and you start drinking it when you're two. We do like a little tea with our sugar
*        Backwards and forwards means "I know everything about you."
*        The word "Jeet" is actually a phrase meaning "Did you eat?"
*        You don't have to wear a watch because it doesn't matter what time it is. You work until you're done or it's too dark to see.
*        You don't PUSH buttons, you MASH them.
*        "No. Jew?" is a common response to the question "Did you bring any pork rinds?"

YOU KNOW YOU'RE FROM Georgia IF:

*        You measure distance in minutes.
*        You've ever had to switch from heat to A/C in the same day.
*        All the festivals across the state are named after a fruit, vegetable, grain, insect or animal.
*        You know what a "DAWG" is.
*        You carry jumper cables in your car .. For your OWN car.
*        You only own five spices: salt, p

"The local papers cover national and international news on one page, but require 6 pages for local gossip and motor sports."

This should be edited to say, "...and the goings on with the local Baptists."  Which are as thick as theives around these parts.

And I did not realize until living briefly in Louisiana, that Brunswick Stew is definitely primarily a GA thing and is not embraced by all parts of the South.  Made well, is like ambrosia.

Noticed the Lewis Grizzard quote and of course, he was born and raised one town over from where I live now (Newnan), in Moreland, GA.  Have you been to Sprayberry's Barbecue in Newnan?  If not, they have a Lewis Grizzard Special as that was his favorite BBQ joint to eat at and they do make some kick ass Brunswick Stew.  We like to eat at the original Sprayberry's which is on the West side of downtown Newnan.  The newer place off I-85 isn't quite as good in IMHO opinion.

I never met anyone who wasn't either a Baptist or Methodist or didn't have an English surname until I was in college.  Nor did I realize that the perpetrators of the "War of Northern Agression" didn't serve grits.  Hell, they didn't even know what the were.  It's a strange world out there.

Things this Florida boy has learned over the past 12 years...
1) State taxes (FLA has none)
2) Ad Velorem Taxes (WTF?)
3) Never seen a peach in Atlanta except on a street sign
4) The same street could have three or more different names
5) All politicians are named Sonny, Bubba, Buddy, or Cooter
6) In the 12 years that I've lived in my subdivision, I've only met one other Southerner who lived in my "hood"
7) In Florida, I never had to stop and help a Chineese newspaper man who had been beat up by local communist (true story)
8) No Happy Hour prices on drinks (WTF?)
9) The chicken wing is the gourmet king (OK, that's universal)
10) Everything aside, North Georgia has lush hills and mountains, great roads and nice people... oh, and no palmetto bugs (at least up thisa' way)

Dude, I live in Johns Creek and I swear to the good Lord above, I saw a palmetto bug in my concrete storage room last week and that bastard was so big, he offered to help me move some boxes in exchange for a couple Bud Light's.

11)  And all those politicians (especially the ones named Sonny) think it's THEIR business to keep me from buying a fu##ing beer on Sunday.

BTW, all you "Johns Creek" residents really need to get over yourselves--it's Alpharetta, dammit!!!   (Or as I like to call it, "Milfaretta")

Andre, you're obviously on a roll tonite with the snappy repartee .  Actually, I'd swear that Shreveport, LA is the cockroach capital of the South.  Never seen them so numerous nor so large in my entire life!

Born and raised in Georgia, lately I've learned that now they sell cars with no blinkers, give drivers license to anyone, and I might as well be living in Tijuana!
