I just brought home my new '08 Street Bob and want to remove the rear reflectors and tank emblems. I've read all the posts of using Goo-Gone, Goof-off, WD-40, etc... but am worried how that will affect the paint, if at all. I've seen a few denim painted bikes with reflectors removed, so hoped someone could give me some advice. One in particular is Bobber77's bob pictured in this thread - http://www.hdforums.com/archive/threads/anyone-know-if-removing-the-reflectors-is-illegal-in-ca-1848420-1.html Thanks

I took the reflectors off mine using a hairdryer, a credit card and Motsenbockers Lift Off spray. Not a bit of damage to the rear fender or forks as you can see...

DO NOT USE GOOF-OFF and you will be okay with any of the rest as far as your paint goes. You can use something to heat it up if you wish. May make it easier but I didn't find it necessary. Use the fishing line method to get the stuff of. Then use your fingers to roll off as much residual "goo" as possible, and then switch to the goo-gone or WD-40 for what's left. So far, I've used this method to remove the rear reflectors twice, once off the fender and then again off the chrome struts, the front reflectors, and my tank badges. No paint issues whatsoever. The newer your bike is, the more likely that stuff is to come off easier and cleaner.

I took off my envelope openers off my Denim Fat Bob without any trouble... Used a heat gun (hair dryer amy work too) on low while applying constant pulling pressure on the part to be removed. No mess, cleanup or damage! I would never put chemicals on the denim paint. good luck, it is not hard to do...

I use a platic putty knife with an old t-shirt wrapped around it. Slides right under it all.

Thanks all. I'll try using the ole hair dryer and plastic puddy-knife (if necessary) trick and'll post some pics if all works out (fingers crossed).

There is a tool out there for a drill called a decal eraser . It will remove glue and the tape and hurt nothing at all.. Ive used them many many times with excellent results.. 25 years autobody journey man approved

I've used the stripe-off wheels many times on my trucks, but I was curious if it would be ok to use it on the denim.

I removed all the badges from my Black Denim Fat Bob. Was very easy... just used a hair dryer and slowly pulled them off. No marks on the tank whatsoever. As for the reflectors, I did have to use a bit of Goo Gone on the fender strut covers to get off the residue after pulling them off. I wouldn't use it on the paint though.
