Which kind of air filter is this???

Hi,

I've purchased a second hand S&S teardrop air filter cleaner to adapt it to my Mikuni HSR42. It comes with a filter that seems to be a K&N, but I don't know if it can be washed or not.

The filter element is this:

My question is if can I wash this filter and how. May I use the K&N filter air service kit or must it be cleaned in other way?

If it's the filter described in your link, it is not reusable. The price, if nothing else, indicates that.

Ive used K&N filters in every vehicle I own.Even though they are reusable,I find it more of a pain in the ass to clean them and re oil them than it is to just replace it.
I realize it is a waste of money but its cheap insurance and isnt really that expensive.

k&n are cotton gauze
made to be cleaned
any brand filter cleaner can be used but
that doesnot look like a reusable filter
must agree with mp price does dictate that

Its a standard S & S filter. I asked S & S direct by email about it and the Good people there said don't oil it (unless used in desert race conditions), don't bother cleaning it and replace it within service recommendations.
I was impressed they emailed me back.

Ok! Then I will have to replace it when it be dirt. I suppose that then I'll get a K&N. Thanks a lot to everybody that has helped me.
